Suzuki GSF 1200 BANDIT 1996

Considering the box that the 600 Bandit makes, it didn’t take long for Suzuki to arrange the sauce to a more greedy and generous version. We take the same one and put a big engine in it; and what’s more, a derivative of the 1100 GSX-R. Here comes the Bandit for the big guys.

Look for the differences. If you’re not from the gang, you won’t be able to tell them apart. Whether in N or S version, the B12 is the almost perfect copy of the B6. Same face, same frame design, same tank, same silhouette, only the pot and the size of the engine change – well, at first glance. Rest assured, the chassis has adapted to the big mill that Suz ‘housed in the steel rib cage of the 1200. Hey, this boiler is really the GSX-R block ?
Yes, with some modifications. Originally in 1,127 cm3 on the old 1,100 sports car, the large air / oil-cooled moulbif rose to 1,157 cm3 thanks to an additional 1 mm of bore. But Hammamatsu engineers did not seek maximum power for this roadster; they favored the couple. To do this, the camshafts adopt a wiser profile and the carbs go down from 40 to 36 mm. The big GSF thus displays a power of 93 hp, for everyone (it is not restricted). Not huge for such a big engine, but it’s the torque that is very interesting. 12 mkg obtained from mid-range – big chest and no need to hit the towers to enjoy this muscle. It will give !
OK, a big heart like that, you have to hold it. Thus, the chassis evolves accordingly, with a frame of suitable dimensions, a swinging arm of good section in aluminum and not in steel as on the 600, a 2 mm larger fork, braking provided by 310 mm discs and 4 piston calipers, a rear shock with more adjustments. And to make it a little more classy, we find on the B12 a small additional dial, between the speedometer and the tachometer, which acts as a fuel gauge, an aluminum chain guard of the most beautiful effect, and the small touch. personal with a gold-colored anodized chain. The Bandit is beautiful, especially in its N version, with a good finish and a bit provocative.

SUZUKI GSF 1200 BANDITThe first laps of laps impress on several occasions. Previously surprised that the B12 is only overweight 12 kg compared to the B6, we are even more so when we see that the bike is so manoeuvrable and balanced. It may well be a big engine but it seems to be in the middle class. The turning radius is good, the engine very flexible as the transmission assembly, which makes this machine comfortable in town. The rider will have no other feeling than to appreciate, The saddle and the suspensions favor comfort, the seat is natural, the controls pleasant and the motorcycle only needs a few meters to put its owner in the air. ‘easy.
And if you still believe that big cubes rhyme with anvil, then roll up with this 1200. We send it in the curve of a call on the toe clips, without even insisting on the handlebars. Then, all you have to do is open at any speed to have good power and increase the driving pace at will. When reaching 4000 rpm, the engine already has nearly 50 hp available and its torque value is close to the maximum. Not villainous and rather well behaved, the mill is not as rogue as the name of the machine suggests. We would have liked it a little more “raw”, although the potato it has has enough to satisfy many fans of heavy cavalry. Use and abuse the fat of the couple and you can ride fast and hard, see more … Above 6,000 trs, there is still a large dose of canassons which will arrive, without however tumbling down like a herd of furious mammoths. Be careful though – the B12 holds the road well, but it’s a big bike. It will be less easy to catch up with it than the B6 if we let ourselves be carried away by optimism. On the other hand, the big GSF has a much better road behavior on bad roads than the small one. The brakes offer good power as long as you insist on the lever. The feeling is felt.

The fork crown of the S version can hold a 150/160 cruising but the protection is not sufficient to qualify the Bandit S as road.
Of course, if you have a heavy hand, the big 1200 slaps the gourd copiously. In absolute terms, the 4-cylinder is in the right measure: not particularly sober but not too greedy either.. SUZUKI GSF 1200 BANDITIt is possible to swallow within 180 kms before refueling. After going to the pump, check that the mirrors haven’t loosened a bit – this sometimes happens.

The 600 Bandit is a hit, the 1200 will follow without problem. It has trunk, watts, handling and quality comfort, and above all, it is offered at an attractive price: 5 bricks. For a motorcycle of this caliber, it’s well worth it.
