Suzuki GSX-R 1000 2008

Dreaded and formidable, the GSX-R 1000 never tires of taking the podiums and destroying its competitors. As is customary, the odd years mark the revival of this big hypersport. The opportunity for Suzuki to improve again and again its spearhead, to knock out the other 1000 sportsmen a little more and to extend its reign.

Rather than a total novelty, the GSX-R 1000 version 2007 is presented as a big evolution of the 2005. The plastic does not evolve in a spectacular way; just subtle modifications that preserve the identity while modernizing certain parts. On its raptor face, the intake ducts (with more discreet edges than before) are slightly re-positioned, still in order to optimize the air drawn in but without giving in to the fashion for the air intake central forced (Suzuki does not play like everyone else; to preserve its identity?). The lighthouse becomes wiser again, with a certain hayabusa profile. The fashion side returns to the night light with its star design. From a stylistic point of view, most of the machine is inspired by the lineage of the last 600 and 750 GSX-R: the fairing sides, the rear hull, the tank in 2 parts, eaten by the air box , everything is a clever blend of the 2006 GSX-R family with the sparkle of a sharp pencil. Nothing surprising at first glance except when the vision of the posterior reveals the 2 side exhausts.

Did you like the controversial triangular pot of the new generation Gex 1000? With the 2007, Suzuki doubled the stake. A designer fancy or a technical necessity? The nostalgic will see the memory of the GSX-R 1100, also equipped with 2 exhausts. This will mainly be explained by the need to let the engine breathe despite the Euro 3 standard castrators. With more exhaust volume (there is also a stilling chamber behind the engine), the GSX-R boiler develops a few more horses (with however a little less torque) without worrying about the anti-pollution passage. In addition, with a pot on each side, the Gex is better balanced. This is essential for a leading machine in competition, and which will have to assume without complex a small overweight..
She was the lightest … that may change. The 1000 K7 takes 6 kilos this year. With 172 kgs dry, it does not have to be ashamed of its measurements but will have to be wary of the new Yamaha R1, less powerful but shielded with electronics and equipped with a variable air intake..

Although … does she really fear someone, with the technological debauchery housed in her guts? ?
The engine, already a little jewel full of watts and enthusiasm, is evolving noticeably. New titanium valves, red zone increased to 13,700 rpm (+ 200 rpm), new injectors with 12 spray holes, and above all, a new electronic management … sorry; 3 new electronic engine management. It’s new, it comes from the competition, and it allows the pilot to choose his map according to the driving conditions. A button on the handlebars allows you to select your injection mapping while driving. Terrible !
The engine adapts to your mood, the bike to you. The footplates are adjustable in several positions, and the suspensions benefit, in addition to the usual ones, from the adjustment of slow and fast compressions. The steering damper is new, electronically controlled, so only active when needed. Note also that the 2007 Gex is equipped with a hydraulic clutch with radial pump.

And how many horses does this new GSX-R 1000 come out with? At MP, we were betting on 182 horses. In Hammamatsu, it is given 185 static – which should allow the Gex to release almost as many nags in dynamics as a ZZR 1400 … Simply scary !
This profusion of watts eclipses the relative drop in maximum torque (- 0.3 mkg) obtained 1000 rpm higher than on the 2005 model. Virtually negligible value at this level of performance..
With this new surface-to-surface missile, it might be time for Suzuki to make compulsory all-inclusive packs: a Gex-superbike pack = a suzuki GSX-R 1000 + a driving course + very big c …… s + overdose of “not even afraid”. Idea to explore as the potential of the 1000 becomes more and more exceptional with each evolution.
