The Suzuki RM-Z 450 version 2013 benefits even more from the manufacturer’s experience in the field of competition. On the engine side, the engine manufacturers have redesigned the piston, its axis, and the connecting rod. Just as rigid as the previous one, the piston is 13% lighter. To reduce friction losses, the piston pin is coated with DLC (Diamond Like Carbon), as on the suspension of the sporty 1300 Hayabusa. The mono of the RM-Z 450 responds with more liveliness and gives more gniak at mid-range.
In order to comply with new noise standards, the exhaust manifold is 50mm longer. The gearbox has been slightly revised, with a different staging for gears 2, 3, 4 and 5. The engine control unit is improved with a more powerful processor, and the electronics are now completely isolated: the ECM is completely waterproof, protected from splashing water and mud. A new self-diagnostic function allows the user to better manage the maintenance of the machine.
In addition to a revised frame for better stability / stiffness ratio, the big RM-Z gains a 48mm Showa SFF split-piece fork – damping is in the left tube while the right accommodates the spring. Suzuki has also provided a simplified adjustment of the injection parameters for those who have the optional box..
