Does the Ducati Hypermotard SP live up to its price?
Content of
The Ducati Hypermotard is wicked, wants to seduce and makes immoral offers. It promises an exquisite fun bike performance – the full program. The hot ride, however, is significantly more expensive than anywhere else.

the Ducati Hypermotard SP seems to be asking the viewer: “Schisser or Hero?” Sometimes one does not dare to approach the object of one’s desire. For fear of embarrassing yourself or not meeting the requirements. It would definitely be a mistake! In the worst case, you just go your separate ways again. With the Ducati Hypermotard SP this is very unlikely.

Its abbreviation stands for “Sport Production”, which means that Ducati offers a sportier version in addition to the basic Hypermotard. How do the two differ? Is the sportier Ducati Hypermotard worth the whopping surcharge of 3400 euros (14 590 euros to 11 190 euros)?
At least the Ducati Hypermotard SP looks a lot more elegant and has expensive carbon fiber parts as a timing belt cover instead of simple plastic. The front fender is also made of the fine material. The elaborate multiple painting of the cladding parts is also pleasing to the eye and underlines the demand for something special. The same goes for the wheels.
In contrast to the 10-spoke counterpart of the normal version, they are forged and the filigree design is reminiscent of the Panigale rims. Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP sports rubbers are tightened around the wheels. The standard Hypermotard is the somewhat more moderate Diablo Rosso II.
The Ducati Hypermotard SP has an Ohlins shock absorber
Ducati
The butted handlebars of the Hypermotard SP are made of aluminum, the handlebar height has increased by ten millimeters.
Only if you look closely can you identify the magnesium valve cover, the butted aluminum handlebar and the radial brake pump with the five-way adjustable lever on the Ducati Hypermotard SP. In contrast, the spring elements are much easier to recognize. A fully adjustable fork from Marzocchi equipped with fat 50 mm inner tubes bounces and dampens instead of a non-adjustable 43 mm fork from Kayaba. At the rear, a fully adjustable spring strut from Ohlins works instead of the Sachs counterpart, which can only be adjusted in the rebound stage.
The fork and shock absorber of the Ducati Hypermotard SP take the term Sport Production very literally. The monoshock in particular tortures the pilot’s back on uneven road surfaces, even with the compression damping fully open, and is noticeably tighter than the standard shock absorber. With this vote, Ducati has overshot a bit, at least in the public domain. Fortunately, the fork works more comfortably. Although it is also very tightly muffled, with the appropriate setting it absorbs wrinkles very well and does not dive as deeply.
Our setup tips: Completely open the compression stage of the fork, open the rebound stage by 23 clicks. Shock absorber: Compression completely up, rebound 16 clicks up. With this set-up, the SP drives neatly across the country, but the pilots are still better at avoiding wrinkled ground.

The Ducati Hypermotard SP is most fun on bends
Ducati
For reasons of space, the shock absorber of the Ducati Hypermotard SP is installed upside down. For the highway, however, the vote was too tight.
On the other hand, you should definitely look for winding stretches! Thanks to its lighter wheels and a total weight reduction of three and a half kilos (195.5 to 199 kilos), the Ducati Hypermotard SP swiftly arrows around corners. In addition, with the sportier Pirellis, it hardly requires any steering corrections when leaning.
This is complemented by the increased ground clearance thanks to the longer suspension travel, which should suffice even the boldest drivers chasing corners in supermoto style. The spring travel also increases the seating position – by a measured ten millimeters to 890 mm. If that’s too high for you, you can use the 20 mm lower accessory bench.
Ducati Hypermotard SP drivers enjoy the three driving modes “Race”, “Sports” and “Wet”. Depending on the level, the electronics work with different presettings for ABS, traction control, power delivery and throttle response. The driving aids also allow individual adjustments, cover everything from fiery-hot to tired-boring and the ABS and the TC can be switched off independently of each other.
Tip: Choose Race or Sport, set ABS to level two, traction control to three and throttle response to medium. This makes it easy to shoot without being slowed down by the electronics. Attention: ABS level two does not prevent the somersault forwards! Full professionals even put ABS in first place. This deactivates the rear wheel ABS and allows hot braking drifts.
On the engine side, there is no difference to the “normal”” Hypermotard. The little whisk loves speeds and only really starts sweeping from 7000 rpm. Thanks to the short gear ratio, it can also handle lazy shifting driving. And now? Shit or Hero? Just dare!
PS readings
The measured values of the Ducati Hypermotard SP in detail.
The diagram shows the power delivery in the modes “Race” (green) and “Wet” (red). Clear to see: In wet mode, the Ducati Hypermotard SP does not press its full punch on the road, at 78 hp and 70 Nm it is over. In everyday life, this level is therefore of no use. On cautious people, however, it has a calming effect in poor road conditions.

HP judgment Ducati Hypermotard SP
The tight alignment of the spring elements only brings advantages to the Ducati Hypermotard SP on racetracks, on the other hand it is rather a hindrance on country roads. Apart from that, the Ducati Hypermotard SP is an extremely attractive, sporty, slim bike that is hard to resist. The additional price of 3400 euros compared to the base is heavy, however, so you have to be a real Hypermotard lover.
