Test SYM Citycom 300i
Big wheels, small price
Large wheeled scooters are on the rise. They are even more attractive when, like the SYM Citycom 300i, the price is right.

It’s not exactly the SYM brand that comes to mind when you think of scooters. However, the Taiwanese vehicle manufacturer Sanyang Industry Co. Ltd is no longer a blank slate. The company, which was founded 54 years ago, has so far produced over five million vehicles. Automobiles, vans, motorcycles and even scooters. SYM’s youngest offspring is the Citycom 300i with a displacement of 263 cm³, a 23 hp large cyclist. This is what the relevant circles call scooters with 16-inch wheels. The Citycom is the inexpensive answer to the Honda SH 300i, the Piaggio Beverly 250 GT or the Yamaha X-City 250, for example. It costs 3895 euros, around 600 to 800 euros less than its declared competitors.
In view of this offer, you shouldn’t be bothered by the plastic-like interior cladding and the unadorned switches. After all, everything that is practical and useful is on it. The Citycom has a main stand and side stand, a lockable glove compartment, a large storage space under the lush, comfortable bench seat, fold-out passenger footrests and a high, protective windshield. Only in the footwell there is a little lack of space because the ten-liter tank in the center tunnel takes up a lot of space. In view of the low fuel consumption, the tank could have been significantly smaller without reducing the range unacceptably. The water-cooled clean man, equipped with injection and a regulated catalytic converter, consumes just three liters on country roads. Even in the mix of city traffic and expressway, the four-stroke engine allows a maximum of 3.3 liters per 100 kilometers. Nevertheless, the Citycom does not have to hide in terms of willingness to perform. He hangs cleanly on the accelerator, steps briskly at the traffic lights, quickly climbs up slopes without breathlessness and achieves his top speed of 127 km / h without a long run-up.
On winding country roads and in urban turmoil, the driver of the Citycom benefits from its good handling, and with its decent driving stability, it can also easily put up with a brisk pace. Only the somewhat insensitive reacting spring elements thwart the otherwise comfortable-looking large cyclist. And the single-disc brakes on the front and rear wheels require a strong pull on the hand levers, but they are sufficiently effective. The bottom line, however, outweighs the feeling of getting a well-equipped, very economical scooter with decent driving performance at a fair price, which one likes to look for small weaknesses.
