Tests – Ride and arsouille: the new Pirelli Angel ST shows its versatility – Marketing too much!

Ready for off-road use?

The 1200 multimotor a discontinued model? Not at all. In the Enduro versions and the Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro Pro, which has been sharpened for off-road use, he can continue working. We left them in the test "Per" to fly.

Ready for take off: With the Enduro and Enduro Pro models, Ducati wants to emphasize that the large 1200 multistrada is suitable for flight inserts. If the focus of the new 1260 Multistrada generation with its 17-inch tires is on pure road use, the 1200 Enduro races with 19- and 17-inch tires are positive. Especially the variant D.ucati Multistrada 1200 Enduro Pro. With a cocked tap, she rushes towards the jump hump – fully fueled and equipped with suitcases and a topcase, weighing 304.5 kilograms – and takes off. But what is much more important: a short time later it lands again. In one piece and only a few richer scratches. They adorn the engine guard and the front silencer. The spring elements, each with a travel of 200 millimeters to work, their semi-active damping and the generous ground clearance of 205 millimeters, cannot change that.

Weight increases only minimally

With the tank protection bars that only decorate the Pro version and the LED lights on the side, which are also reserved for them, the weight increases. Even the titanium muffler by Termignoni, which also only adorns the Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro Pro, and the windshield, which is narrower than the normal Multistrada Enduro, do not compensate for the additional kilos. Expressed in numbers: the Enduro weighs 277 kilograms with a full 30-liter tank. The Pro ten kilos more with the same tank capacity. Ducati has equipped the Pro with a tubeless Pirelli Scorpion Rally so that the balancing act in the terrain does not turn into a tricky trial exercise with so much weight. The coarse tires bite impressively into rubble and gravel, convey a good feeling off-road. The easily controllable engine also contributes to this.

The tank protection bars are attached to the side of the Pro.

After all, the V2 pushes ahead with 152 horsepower at 9,500 rpm if necessary. Not completely jerk-free, but gently and easily controlled, it accelerates and can still be moved casually at walking pace with the handle of the smooth clutch. Which is also because the lush dimensions of the Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro Pro do not affect your off-road spirit. Despite its huge volume, the tank does not restrict freedom of movement and the wide handlebars sit comfortably in the hand even when standing. And when there is a connection stage on asphalt, the buttocks are happy about the comfortably padded bench.

The weight is too high for proper off-roading

Road trips with the Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro Pro are really fun. The ergonomics fit, the motor pushes forward strongly, and the heavily profiled tires grip surprisingly well. Until the pace gets sportier. Even with the traction control set defensively at level 5, the rear wheel marches briskly outwards before it catches the TC after all. And when you brake hard, it feels like jelly is in the fork. The Scorpion Rally on the rims can do a lot, but not everything. Ultimately, this applies to a certain extent to the whole Multistrada Enduro Pro: It wants a lot, but fails a little on its own. The weight is too high for proper off-roading, requires an expert, and the grip is limited for sloping drifts. If you don’t mind, you can get it from 21,990 euros.
