Suzuki is currently showing two world premieres at the Tokyo Motor Show: the Biplane, an astonishing airplane-like V4, and the Crosscage, a fuel cell motorcycle. Without forgetting the Gemma, an ultra-flat scooter…

Suzuki biplane

With the Biplane, currently presented on the Suzuki stand of the 40th Tokyo Motor Show, Suzuki intends to reconcile the sensations specific to piloting an airplane with those of driving a motorcycle: "the concept of Biplane aims to restore the sensation common to airplanes and motorcycles, focusing particularly on the pilot’s feeling when accelerating", explains the manufacturer.

With its fake airs of airplane crossed with a Swiss army knife, the Biplane features a liquid-cooled 1000cc V-four.

With a total length of 2.166 m, it has a width of 645 mm and an overall height of 906 mm. Goal : "evoke the pleasure of riding even for those who have never touched a motorcycle".

Suzuki crosscage

True technological innovation, the Crosscage plays the environmental card, the trump card of this 40th Tokyo Motor Show: with its fuel cell produced by Intelligent Energy – a British company to which we owe in particular the ENV Bike -, the proto Crosscage offers an alternative "extremely doable"to gasoline vehicles, says Suzuki.

A crossed frame (the "cross cage") protects the hydrogen tank – which generates electrical energy on contact with oxygen by rejecting water vapor, but which has an annoying tendency to ignite easily – , above which is housed the fuel cell and below which is a lithium battery.

A sensor is also placed above the chassis to detect the slightest hydrogen leak and cut off the power if necessary.

The actual fuel cell has been considerably reduced compared to those beginning to emerge in automobiles, due to the space problem on a motorcycle: it is air cooled and does not require "neither hydrogen pump nor humidifier", says Suzuki.

With the Crosscage, Suzuki wants to pave the way for a motorcycle "relax, stress-free, noise-free and vibration-free"- while preparing a" clean "alternative (if we exclude the energy required to produce the batteries) in the coming years without oil…

Suzuki gemma

Note also the ultra low scooter "Gemma", powered by a 249 cc 4-stroke single cylinder, which offers a saddle at the same height for the pilot and the passenger….
