No Tourist Trophy for Mister Bouan…
After seven consecutive titles in the Dark Dog Moto Tour (from 2006 to 2012) and a crown in the French Supersport Championship (2011), Denis Bouan wanted to take on a new challenge by participating in the legendary Tourist Trophy. After seven consecutive titles in the Dark Dog Moto Tour () and a crown in the French Supersport Championship (), Denis Bouan wanted to launch a new challenge by participating in the legendary Tourist Trophy. But the Parisian injured his knee in a road accident and must give up…
Like, the 34-year-old pilot wanted to join the TT to satisfy his curiosity and launch a new challenge..
Is this road race contested on the Isle of Man, between England and Ireland, as difficult and impressive as it is claimed? Its and its 350 turns do they require talent or madness to cover them, at more than 200 km / h of lap average for the best (read in particular our) ?
"I wanted to do something else, I am naturally curious and this event recognized as being one of the hardest in the world is a new challenge", confided the king of the Moto Tour before leaving for the other side of the Channel. "I want to know what it is, from the inside out, and compete with the prestigious drivers of this crazy race".
Ambitioning to participate in several events (the two Superbike and Supersport races and the Stocksport round) thanks to the support of Yamaha Motor France, the dealer Jean-Marc Deletang, Rezoximo and Metzeler, Denis Bouan planned to store a maximum driving to spot the ground this year and get a good result afterwards.
Unfortunately, a stupid traffic accident puts an end to this great adventure when the first tests tragically began with the .
Denis Bouan crashed into a car at low speed on his way back from a friend’s house on the Isle of Man. Like many drivers used to riding on the right, the seven-time winner of the Dark Dog Moto Tour was the victim of one of the main traps set by driving on the left: after a stop sign, he left – out of habit – in the right lane , therefore in the opposite direction…
"A little moment of inattention …"
"I was driving slowly, between 40 and 50 km / h, I barely left the stop sign, only I had a little moment of inattention which made me leave by driving on the right, like a good Frenchman", explains Denis Bouan.
"I hit the car but managed to shift just before the frontal impact. This allowed me to be thrown into the air and not into the car. I was evacuated to the hospital where they operated on my knee within an hour. I am now out but the doctors do not allow me to get on the motorcycle ".
"I admit that I tried all the same, but the pain is really not bearable", continues the friendly French pilot.
"I can’t put my foot on the foot rest. So now I have to think about my knee to heal and regain all the mobility of my joint. Future physiotherapy sessions are going to be painful … I will now pass from pilot to observer, in order to assimilate the most information and tips to come back next year in better conditions ".
"We often hear that most accidents happen on short trips near us, well here’s the proof," he analyzes philosophically. "I let you imagine the paradox for me, whose job is to drive fast on circuit and on closed roads, to get trapped at 40km / h during a one kilometer trip"…
Thanking all these partners and those who were impatiently awaiting his participation in the TT, Denis Bouan ensures that this abortive first did not affect his motivation and that he is even preparing in his head the Tourist Trophy 2014 !
