For bikers who want to make it to the 2016 Tourist Trophy in 99 days, caution: a storm warning in the Irish Sea has just been issued by the organizers since Eskil Suter will align his MMX 500 2-stroke racing motorcycle on Superbike races !

"And now, the weather forecast for Friday June 10, 2016 on the Isle of Man: a crazy two-stroke will erupt everywhere, thunder and lightning are expected throughout the day", announce the organizers of the TT 2016 on their official Isle of Man TT Facebook page.

"Visibility could be reduced due to a bewitching scent smoke", continue the facetious and inspired British. But "intense episodes of happiness are also to be expected, especially on the heights"…

Behind this funny bulletin is in fact the announcement of the participation in the next Tourist Trophy of a motorcycle truly unlike any other: the MMX 500 from Suter Racing, the Swiss racing motorcycle manufacturer famous for its Moto2 chassis..

Its founder, Eskil Suter, took advantage of the holding this weekend of "his" Swiss-Moto show (from February 18 to 21 in Zurich) to unveil the machine which will take part in the two Superbike races (RST and Pockerstars Senior) and to reveal the name of its driver: Ian Lougher, nine times winner of the Tourist Trophy.

“The Senior TT, six 60 km laps in the Snaefell Mountain Course, is a race for the toughest riders,” says GM de Suter. "I have the reputation of being quite courageous, but the Tourist Trophy is an event where I gladly give up my place as a driver".

The lucky winner is valiantly rolling towards his 53 birthday but seems particularly suited to the mission: winner for the first time in the Junior TT 250 category in 1990 (!), Mister Lougher won his last two victories 19 years later, out of 125 and 250 cc.

Also victorious twice in Supersport (2002 and 2005), this native of Cardiff (Wales) remains attached to 2-stroke engines: in 2014, he won at the Classic TT Festival in the Formula categories. 2 "quarter liter" and 500 cc Classic !

The over-the-counter Suter MMX500

Officially launched on the market – luxury GP500! – in September 2015, the Suter enters into competition with another exceptional motorcycle: the. The Swiss novelty is also aligned with the price of the German replica of the NSR of Rossifumi: count 120,000 CHF (109,000 € HT) to acquire one of the 99 copies of MMX500…

A well-rounded pilot’s CV therefore, for a very demanding motorcycle: cubing exactly 576 cc (why limit yourself to 499 cc, after all ?!), the V4 develops a maximum power of 195 hp which will catapult without difficulty to more than 310 km / h motorcycle of 127 kg (see the technical sheet below).

What to compete with the best current Superbikes? The big boss replies in the affirmative, because "in recent years Suter has accumulated knowledge and skills by building parts or complete motorcycles, or as a supplier in all Grand Prix categories (including in MotoGP with Kawasaki, NDLR) ".

Still according to Eskil, his team has thanks to the MMX 500 a master advantage: "we have a phenomenal power / weight ratio", better than those of the "big" BMWs, Honda, Kawasaki or Yamaha … "It is piloted like a rocket-powered bicycle ", summarizes Mr. Suter !

"We have worked with a renowned university to meet the challenge of polluting emissions and have mastered them", adds the CEO of Suter Racing. "This is why we are embarking on the most difficult road race in the world. For us it is the perfect testing ground." To follow on the Site: stay connected !
