Trail - Tiger 800 XRx test: the little roadster from Triumph - 2015 update of the Tiger 800 road

Successfully launched in 2010, the Triumph Tiger 800 are updated for 2015. Site has tested the new and high-end models of the English trails, here is the test of the road version, the new Triumph Tiger 800 XRx.

2015 Tiger 800 Road Update

As soon as unveiled, as soon as tried! Exhibited three weeks ago on the, will land in January 2015 in the and have already offered a first outing in the extreme south of Spain…

Tiger 800 XRx: availability, colors and price

  • Availability: January 2015 in the

  • Colors: White, Black or Blue

  • Price: 11,390 € (-1200 € for the XR)

It was in Marbella that their international press launch took place, during which the Journal moto du Net was able to test the two high-end versions of the 2015 Tiger 800: the road XRx and the adventurer XCx..

Based on the Tiger 800 "road" XR and "cross country" XC, these two new versions fulfill an important mission for Triumph: that of maintaining the status of reference in the segment of medium displacement trails (read our Duels MNC and).

According to the English manufacturer, the first generation Tiger 800s have sold more than 35,000 copies. At the origin of their success, again according to Triumph: "their power, maneuverability and comfort".

To improve its machines – "and to increase the pleasure of the rider on their handlebars in the end", insists Stuart Wood, chief engineer at Triumph – the Hinckley firm has notably decided to increase their technological content.

Thus, the four Tigresses (XR and XRx, XC and XCx!) All receive electronic throttle control. Mister Wood tells us that some engine parts have also been modified "to reduce consumption, maintain performance and strengthen its premium character"(read our technical point on page 3).

Seen from the outside, however, the "new" Triple 800 cc differs from the previous one only by its "semi-mat" black finish which blends perfectly with the "titanium powder" of the tubular trellis frame identical to the original model of 2010.

Overall, the Tiger 800 XRx that Site is testing today is very well done. Cables and hoses – braided, please! – are carefully guided while the lightly glittery paintings make you forget the threatening clouds that hang over our helmets…

Because if the temperature in Marbella at the end of November is mild (our on-board computer announces 17.5 ° C initially and will even reach 25 ° C!), The sky is badly loaded. As a precaution, MNC slips his rain suit … in a backpack.

With a volume of 2.75 liters according to the manufacturer, the space under the passenger seat cannot accommodate our combi. Not enough, however, to whip a tiger: thin rain pants and a U can find their place. Not so bad for a motorbike these days !

A small road at Triumph

Good point for the new Tiger 800 also: the pilot can adjust the spacing of his two levers (adjustable brake only on the old Tiger). On the new XRx, the owner can also adjust the height of his screen.

The program of our taxiing of approximately 180 km being mainly rolling, the Triumph staff positioned the bubble of our Tiger 800 XRx at the highest. Our hosts obviously want to highlight the "GT" character of their trail midsize…

The instrumentation of the Tiger 800 XRx is precisely worthy of a road: ultra complete and very readable, it always consists of a large analog tachometer and a digital panel which clearly indicates a wealth of information (read our technical point).

Large absent on the previous model of "small" Tiger, the warning appears but its control is in a place not practical at all: on the dashboard! A specificity Triumph that Site criticized however already on the two other Tiger (the "big" and the "medium") as well as on the …

The button placed just above and marked with the letter "M" allows you to select the different driving modes of the Tiger 800 XR in its "x" version only. They are triple three: Road, Off Road or personalized (read our presentation and our technical point).

Set by default on Road mode, the Tiger 800 XRx has only one thing to do: get off its center stand (standard on the "xs", as an accessory on standard models) and cut the road at a good pace. Rhythm that it will keep without difficulty thanks to its cruise control, also present on the XCx.

To perfect her skills as a traveler, Triumph has installed a second 12V socket on the XRx for the passenger. Placed under the saddle, left side, it will allow the co-pilot to connect his own equipment (heated gloves or intercom system for example).

The pilot, for his part, will feel a little less the need to use electric gloves: the Tiger 800 XRx leaves the factory equipped with hand guards that effectively cut wind and rain. Site was able to verify this during its test – very – dynamic: to be continued on the next page !
