Triumph 955i Tiger 2004

Menus

The Tiger has long been present in the big trails-GT category, with marginal technical and aesthetic choices but full of charm and quality. With its globular look and its “jungle” decoration, the Tiger clearly stands out from its rivals.. The very classy and complete dashboard – so British – the large comfortable saddle adjustable in 3 positions, warning and socket for electrical accessories … little things that are essential and that Triumph brings as standard to the Tiger (the competition would do good to be inspired by it).
In 2004, Triumph made quite a few small modifications to the chassis: no more spoked rims in favor of stick models. The wheelbase is reduced by 13 mm, the caster goes from 92 mm to 87.9 mm and the caster angle narrows from 28 ° to 25.8 °. The front and rear suspensions are also revised from the inside. All of this enhances the agility and potential of the machine..

A small detour on the highway does not disturb the adventurer, somewhat the driver who will be satisfied with a correct protection but too limited to the upper part of the bust. For long trips, it will be necessary to install a high screen. Luckily, comfort is matched. The chassis, which draws a large part of its rigidity thanks to the carrier engine, is healthy and particularly manoeuvrable. twirling on small roads, the set of suspensions allows the Tiger to maintain a good dose of comfort while maintaining a sovereign and efficient handling. The front brake jaws are biting and powerful but not very progressive, requiring a moderate and precise lever grip. Achilles heel of the English brand, the rear brake is not the best you find on its motorcycles – the Tiger is no exception..

The soul of this Tiumph (and Triumph) is its engine. The three-legged, which is also the joy of the Daytona and the Speed Triple, subtly combines the qualities of the twin and the 4-cylinder: torque and character at low and mid-range then length and power. The range of use is thus very wide. Also very flexible, it limits the use of the box; pity: its handling is a treat. Not to spoil anything, the engine lends itself as well to tourist use as to more muscular driving. And yet, despite its qualities, it sells 10 times less Tiger than Varadero. Triumph suffers there from a cruel lack of image and recognition. Particularly against BMW and its famous R 1150 GS / 1200 GS, creator of the segment, and especially benefiting from a notoriety “rally-raid-Dakar” could not be more rewarding.
