Let us leave our fictitious friends at their barricade of battles to find out what it is. Because it was not so crazy to want to bring the ACE with you. Triumph is offering a limited edition of the Bonneville T120 for 2019, adorned with the crest of this cult place of English biker culture (and beyond). A partnership of the same caliber gave birth to the 900 Thruxton ACE in 2015.
Starting from the 1200 Bonneville Black, the factory applied a “Matt Storm Gray” paint to it with “Stripe” bands and an imposing “Head Down, Hold” motif on the tank. We added a whole series of ACE logos, installed some accessories (medallions, indicators), removed the passenger handle to clean the rear and changed the saddle..
A very dark tribute, very discreet, far from standing out from a standard T120 Black. Except…
Except on two points. First, the ACE will be manufactured in 1400 copies. Second, this Bonnie will be delivered with a numbered certificate signed by Nick Bloor, the CEO of Triumph, and Mark Wilsmore, the director of the Ace Cafe.
The mechanical and technical basis is fully preserved. In addition to the style that made the reputation of the Bonneville, both yesterday and today, it now knows how to meet the expectations of the right hand with a 1200 cc full of enthusiasm and pleasure. His times and his heart that rises are much more demonstrative than the 80 horses advertised.
The wish of this Englishwoman is vintage on the outskirts then modern to perfection with ABS, two driving modes, traction control, a USB socket, heated grips, anti-dribble clutch, LED lights … A Triumph can also be recognized by the technological situation it embeds.
Did they find their bar? One more mystery for London. Triumph has found the one that matches its Classic range. Perhaps a warmer, less taciturn decor would have attracted more enthusiasm. Unless this ACE doesn’t want to overshadow Bonneville’s other 2019 limited series, the Diamond.
