Triumph has perfectly maneuvered the development of its ranges of roadsters. His ? Yes, on the one hand the modern ‘Roadsters’, full of ardor and nervousness – and on the other the ‘Modern Classics’, anxious to tickle the nostalgic fiber and / or to bring the style of the past with the advantages of modernity. In this family, it all starts with the 900 Street Twin. A little Bonneville with a light, playful, urban temperament.
The machine likes the walks, to have the style in the streets or on the national ones. But his twin-cylinder sometimes wanted to be more comfortable, fuller when the pilot’s mind opened up to bewilderment. Certainly the 1200 Bonneville has the boot for it. Should the Street Twin suffer any longer? ?
Not anymore. The parallel twin emancipates itself by showing a nice progression of its power. Thanks to an increased compression ratio, increased engine speed, a crankshaft, fixed shafts and lighter crankshaft balance shafts, 10 horsepower is added to the 55 already present. This represents an 18% increase over the previous Street Twin – This one had already gained 18% of torque since the 865 Bonneville.
This has a price, which we will seek at high speeds. The English has more watts but its peaks of power and torque are perched higher in the towers. The pulling force preserves its 8.2 mkg, on condition that it is fetched with 600 trs more, at 3,800. We will therefore provoke it a little more, with the satisfaction of a more pronounced momentum and increased performance. . Which opens up new horizons for him. Among the technical changes are a clutch housing with optimized masses and a new, lighter clutch.
Yesterday’s Street Twin braked well, but nothing more. The gripper did the job in line with the temperament of the machine. Now that it spits more at the exit of the connecting rods, an improvement of the brake station will not be a luxury. Triumph thus opts for a Brembo 4-piston caliper to replace the 2-piston Nissin, still on a 310 mm disc. The bite like the effectiveness should take a step further and a higher feel. The rear retains its Nissin 2 piston set with a 255 mm disc.
No changes on the frame side, shock absorbers, swingarm or geometry. Just a touch up on the inside of the fork for a little more efficiency. The Street does not really seek to become a blade of the road; just increase the pleasure.
Precisely, to begin with, a good saddle will be of good quality. With 10 mm more foam thickness, the crew should feel less of the dryness of our roads. We will then benefit from a natural, quiet, relaxed driving position, designed to ride to the rhythm of the twin’s regular poum-poum.
At or at the rhythms? The question can now arise given the presence of the small Mode button on the left stalk. What is he ordering? The Street Twin already had ABS, disconnectable traction control, ride-by-wire … What can it envy its big sister?!? But yes, the Driving Modes. The motor temperament can be tense in ‘Road’ or relax in ‘Rain’, in order to bring gas in several facets. Each mode adapts mapping and traction control settings.
Shall we face it again for this development? Mmmhmm … No need. We’re just going to review two or three little things. A jar of brake fluid a little more classy, a new saddle covering, a perforated protective plate from the Street Cup on the left crankcase, very slightly redesigned air box panels, a summarily revised meter, and new rims more opulent with the sides of machined sticks. You will have to have a very perceptive eye to unearth the changes to the headlight brackets and the tank badge..
LED taillights, USB socket and coded immobilizer are still standard. The options corner is enriched with the TPMS tire monitoring system, alongside the 140 accessories designed to customize this Street Twin.
On the old one, 3 kits allowed him to lift his personality: the ‘Scrambler’, the ‘Brat Tracker’ and the Urban ‘. The new collection has been reduced to 2 packs.
– The ‘Urban Ride’ kit:
An even more stripped-down urban style with
/ A brown padded cafe racer seat
/ A black oil pan kit
/ A fender removal kit
/ A black machined oil tank cap
/ Black intake scoops
/ A black waxed cotton bag
/ LED indicators
– The ‘Cafe Custom’ kit:
With a contemporary urban sensibility, this more current reinterpretation of the “old school” cafe racer includes:
/ A Fox rear suspension handset
/ Vance & Hines silencers
/ A rear fender removal kit
/ LED indicators
/ A black machined oil tank cap
/ Black intake scoops
A nice little update for the Triumph 900 Street Twin, with a tweaking of details, an enrichment in electronics and above all an engine power increased to 65 horsepower. Also available in A2, this bike brilliantly supports the discovery of the English Classic. Remain a price not so democratic as that.
