Of course we looked at the map! We mostly shot when we didn’t have to and we find ourselves lost at the end of the valley. The GPS is obviously in the pocket of the jacket … the one we left at home. Everything is shaping up for the best because just ahead, the departmental disappears to face a good old forest road. The perfect excuse to stretch the wheels of the 800 Tiger XCx.
That’s his thing at the mid-size Tiger. For a bunch of years, he has let the XR play the road while he predisposes himself to more rural trips. However, one being largely modeled on the other technically, the XCx also benefits from a whole series of improvements. Engine side, with a lot of parts changed to make it more responsive. Add to that a shorter first gear ratio and a new exhaust with revised sound..
Triumph raised the trim level and improved some peripherals.
WP is still dealing with suspensions, and so much the better. The brand knows the area, especially in the off-road. In terms of brakes, the 800 Tiger is equipped with Brembo. But it is on the cockpit side that the changes are the most obvious. A new 5-position adjustable screen overhangs a 5-inch color TFT panel. This screen brings a surplus of high-tech in an already serious endowment. It can have various types of displays and is controlled from the handlebars with a 5-position joystick.
The Tiger XCx is always monitored by a disconnectable traction control and ABS. But where the electronic fairy adds a layer, it is on the driving modes. From three, we go to five, including an Off-Road Pro mode – to play manual control by disabling a maximum of assistances. Tremble, o paths of dust.
Which ultimately gives us the Off-Road Pro, Road, Rain, Off-Road and Sport configurations. The speed regulator, in series, is revised. Just like the driving position more raised due to a handlebar which is closer to 10 mm.
Since the XR, the XC continues its difference with spoke rims and a larger 21-inch front wheel. The duckbill makes it possible to assert an all-road side and the suspensions enjoy a much greater travel.
Let’s go back to the standard equipment. The beautiful team makes it possible to justify the premium price but also to make the accessories department quite distant. The Tiger 800 XCx offers, in addition to what has been mentioned, a saddle height, adjustable handlebars and suspensions, heated grips, hand guards, an aluminum engine guard, engine protection bars, two grips power supply (12V and USB), a pair of deflectors around the screen, topstitched comfort saddles and an indescribable desire for wild camping.
Facing and insulting the designated German rival, the Englishwoman sets the bar high and encourages her to try her sights on even more equipment. Far from being essential but inevitably attractive, the Tiger has reserved its LED whiskers, backlit controls and an additional driving mode for the over-equipped XCa version..
Let’s get out of the forest already and we’ll see later – the road promises to be a joke; the tiger is waiting to get its claws out.
