AGV motorcycle helmets by Valentino Rossi
VR46 models since 2002
MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi always starts with special helmet designs on various racing weekends. VR46 often uses its Italian home races to start with eye-catching helmet designs. We picked out some “special” helmets from the doctor. The oldest is from 2002.

In addition to the start number and of course the driving style, helmets are probably the greatest distinguishing feature of racing drivers. Accordingly, the helmet manufacturers put a lot of effort into the design of the hats specially developed for their racing drivers. While some racing drivers get by with one design per season, there are also pilots who start more often with new variations. One of them is Valentino Rossi, who mostly uses his home races in Mugello and Misano to wear new and usually very eye-catching helmets. Also in the winter tests of the MotoGP there are usually new designs of his AGV Pista GP R in action. Rossi has been wearing the helmets of the traditional Italian brand AGV since the beginning of his career.
What’s up with the turtle??
The Italian poet Gabriele d’Annunzio, who was enthusiastic about racing and speed, gave the racing driver Tazio Nuvolari in 1932 a golden turtle as a talisman with the words “The slowest animal in the world for the fastest man in the world”. This gave the turtle its reputation as a racing symbol in Italy.

The turtle is depicted on several Valentino Rossi helmets.
Another trademark of Valentino Rossi are the sun and the moon, which are also often depicted on his helmets. In the picture gallery attached above, we have selected some of the helmets he has worn to date. Since the doctor recently extended his contract with Yamaha until the end of the 2020 season, one or the other new design will certainly come along.
