New Suzuki 2007 coming soon !
Suzuki has just unveiled its new 2007 models: on the program, the new Bandits 650 and 1250, the new GSX-R 1000, the new Burgman 125 and 200 but also the B-King, the concept bike presented six years ago in Tokyo. Presentation.
It has become a habit: the manufacturers skilfully spare the suspense and only deliver little by little information about their new products…
For next year, Suzuki therefore unveils its new Bandits "six and a half" and "twelve and a half" as well as its new GSX-R 1000, while refusing to communicate on the sacrosanct values of maximum power and torque….
The new Burgman scooters meet on October 2 on their official website, while the B-King keeps all of its technical secrets…
Bandits in the water
"Timeless, tireless, stainless: the Bandits are undoubtedly very" in ", as proved by the in which the 650 regularly monopolizes the podium and the 1200 the top 50 (read and).
What need then to change products that sell like hot cakes? The environment, of course! The transition to the Euro3 standard in fact forced Suzuki engineers to equip their best-sellers with a “classic” liquid cooling system and electronic injection. Exit therefore the good old air-oil cooled mills and their carbs from the first GSX-R! A page turns…
In addition to the injection and the cooling system, the new small Bandit now has a four-cylinder (66.5 x 48.7 mm) similar to those of the current production: valves with very closed angles (17 °), close cylinders for greater finesse and vertically mounted gearbox for more compactness.
Without reaching 100 horsepower (at first glance according to the diagram provided by Suzuki, the new 650 engine should deliver around 85 horsepower – we hope that the new Bandit will provide "the fine blend of power and torque with a refined and smooth grip response"announced proudly by the manufacturer. This will perhaps allow it to take the aspi of the supercharged roadsters derived from the supersports of the competition…
A reflection that leads us to fear a certain cannibalism in the range of the French number one in addition to 125 cc: the GSF would not encroach on the flat – and already thin! – GSR tapes (read) ?
On the aesthetic side, almost nothing has changed compared to the 2006 model, apart from a few color changes (indicators, frame), the water radiator larger than the old oil and an engine that finds a gray color putting it value.
The executive wins "10% torsional stiffness"and the tank loses a liter by falling to 19 l while the wheelbase increases by 30 mm to reach 1,470 mm. But seen from the outside, these last points go unnoticed.
The switch to liquid cooling should allow better performance and electronic injection a moderate consumption, both working for minimal pollution. But the weight of these innovations is felt: from 204 kg in 2006, the small 650 S goes to 218 kg in 2007.
Logically, the big sister 1250 followed the same evolutions but should show itself to be proportionally more powerful than the 650. Although named 1200, the old engine of the Bandit cubed exactly 1157 cc. Passing the water, the new totals 1255 cc – and not 1250 as the name suggests – so that the big Suzuki roadster earns almost 100 cc. !
The specialists are already counting on 130 horsepower in the free zone, which would offer the pilot a boost in sportiness but also respect towards the owners of FZ1 (soon to be tested on Moto-Net), Z1000, Speed Triple and others K1200R…
However, the power curves of the 2006 and 2007 models seem to contradict this prediction since that of the 2007 model reaches approximately the same value as that of the 2006 model, but a few turns lower. A note valid on the whole of the curve, the additional centimeter of stroke of the pistons offering a significant gain in power … on paper at least.
The 1250 also takes advantage of this makeover to steal the 650’s adjustable saddle, but its handlebars remain fixed. The aesthetic touch-ups are the same as on the small Bandit and the large one gains 10 kg. Available next spring, the prices of the two models should remain tight … Suzuki obliges !
Biaggi’s future toy !
It’s a relief: the new GSX-R 1000 will indeed be more powerful, more docile and cleaner than its predecessor! It is armed this year with a new injector rail – with 12 holes instead of 4 – more compact, titanium valves, a second balance shaft to limit vibrations at high speeds and pipes of intake and exhaust enlarged by 10% and 20% respectively.
All of this should lead to a further increase in peak power, more torque at mid-range, feel, etc. But what we note above all is the symmetry of this bike which now has two silencers, slightly smaller than the single pot mounted on the previous model..
Seen from the front, the larger and more prominent gills of the beast almost entirely hide the pots, which have not yet reached the small size of those equipping the GSX-R 600 and 750. On the other hand, the 1000 seems to have resumed. to his account the evolutions of the frame of his little sisters and should be always more efficient in curves.
Always on the efficiency side, Suzuki does not forget that the main thing comes above all from the pilot … And Max Biaggi, registered in the 2007 World Superbike on the handlebars of this car (read), will not say the opposite … if he wins !
The pilot is therefore offered not only three different footrest positions but also three engine maps, interchangeable at any time on the right stalk, depending on the type of road, track or grip. !
The new 1000 finally benefits from an electronic steering damper like the Honda CBR1000RR or the all-new 2007 CBR600RR (read), as well as fully adjustable suspensions, distinguishing front and rear between compression slow and fast compression.
For once, the Suzuki hypersportive saw its weight increase by 3 kg, reaching 172 kg. As for its price, it should remain aligned with that of its competitors, around € 13,500.
Del Piero’s toy
As Biaggi prepares to drive the GSXR-R K7, international footballer Del Piero rides in the new Burgman 125 !
The new Suzuki GT scooter is gently revised for the first time, as evidenced by its recognizable face, which is more round than in 2006. Its storage space is slightly larger and under the handlebars, a storage compartment is now available.
The front wheel goes from 12 to 13 inches while the engine, now powered by electronic injection, goes "well below Euro3 standards", reassures the Japanese manufacturer. Another main novelty: the adoption of the brake coupling system, very popular in the scooter sector.
The Burgman will also be available in 200cc.
A B-King Menu XL !
The B-King has finally made its first appearance, six years after the concept of an ultra-wicked street bike intrigued the crowd at the 2001 Tokyo Motor Show (read).
But if the time is no longer for rumors or photomontages, Suzuki is still trying to spare the suspense on the characteristics of the newcomer…
We will therefore have to wait a little longer for more information on this model which will be released "in 2007", assures Suzuki. Very massive, the maxi roadster animated by the engine of Hayabusa impresses by its size, its forms and its dark color, even if the idea of fitting a tire of 240 mm at the rear is passed to the hatch.
Darth Vader will be able to leave his black star without regret: riding the B-King, he will feel at ease !
