Circuit Carole: new record for GMT94, Jules Cluzel and their R6
Since 2013, the GMT94 team has held the absolute record on the Carole circuit with its endurance Yamaha R1 driven by David Checa. This Tuesday June 16, 2020, Christophe Guyot’s team improved its benchmark time thanks to Jules Cluzel and their World Supersport R6: 59 "266 ! Debriefing.
Under the minute to Carole. For the countless racers who have one day put their wheels on the North Parisian circuit, this time is a fantasy … The pilots who have managed to cover the 2055 meters of tarmac in less than 60 seconds are extremely rare..
The first to cross this fateful bar was David Checa, then the favorite rider of Christophe Guyot and his GMT94 endurance team. Riding his competition Yamaha R1, the most French of Spanish bikers had set the new absolute track record in July 12, 2013.
- Update of June 18, 2020 :
- Under the minute at the Carole circuit :
- MNC of May 11, 2020 :
Since then, a handful of pilots had in turn descended under the minute at Carole. Site notes that in the French Superbike Championship, Sebastien Gimbert turned in 59 "970 on his Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade in 2015. Three years later on his BMW S1000RR, Kenny Foray went down in 59" 756. But the record still stood … until this morning !
By scheduling three test days on "its" 93 circuit, the GMT94 first of all wanted to stretch the rods of its R6 engaged in World Supersport, competition stopped dead by the Covid-19 after its opening round in Australia.
Remi Guyot’s team – falling to Carole last week – were also looking to verify that their top driver, Jules Cluzel, was still in the game despite the three and a half month break due to confinement … and despite his very recent paternity ?!
History to increase the pressure on daddy’s helmet hen "coq supersportif", the GMT announced Monday by parking its huge semi-trailer in the small paddock that "Jules Cluzel would try to beat the 600 cc record held by Lucas Mahias in 1’00.9 (2014)".
In recent seasons, the best times in the French Supersport Championship were around 61 seconds: 1’01.201 for Maximilien Bau on his new R6 in 2019, 1’01.174 for Robin Camus on his GSX-R600 in 2015 … and 1 ’00 .995 exactly for Lucas Mahias on the old R6 in 2014.
"Julo" did not disappoint, on the contrary! After having regained its marks yesterday and fearing the stormy showers announced this Wednesday afternoon, the international n ° 16 had to quickly pick up speed this morning. So much so that the Supersport record quickly fell by the wayside !
Even stronger, Cluzel finally improved the absolute record held by the GMT94 and its R1 … 59 seconds and 266 thousandths: it’s confirmed, Jules and his R6 are in great shape! And they will try to drive the point home tomorrow, if the expected morning clearings allow it.
After this satisfactory recovery, Jules will be joined by his teammate Corentin Perolari – who trains at home in the south and breaks records in Alès and Ledenon? – July 8 and 9 at the Barcelona circuit, then July 16 and 17 in Aragon for the first official WorldSBK tests since the Phillip Island race in February. To be continued on MNC: stay connected !
