Haga retains the advantage at Magny-Cours
The Haga – Spies duel took place yesterday for the French WSBK event at Magny-Cours, but it will be necessary to wait for the final to decide between them … In Supersport, Crutchlow takes advantage of a fall by Laverty to take to the open sea. Strongly Portimao !
Pole for Spies
For the tenth time this season, Ben Spies (Yamaha WSBK) won the Superpole event by covering the 4411 meters of the Magny-Cours track in 1 ‘37.709. The Texan rookie thus equalizes the record for the number of poles won in a season, set by the no less phenomenal Doug Polen in 1991, also a "beginner" that season. !
Relegated to almost half a second behind Big Ben, Jonathan Rea (Honda Ten Kate) hoists his CBR100RR on the front row for the 4th time in a row. He is followed by the two inseparable Romans: Michel "the young" Fabrizio and Max "the old" Biaggi.
We must therefore wait for the second row to see the name of Noriyuki Haga appear. Posted in 5th position, he will have at the start – then during the race – a single target: Ben Spies, on which the Japanese have only 3 points in the championship !
Then follow Leon Haslam (Honda Stiggy), Fonsi Nieto (replacement for Regis Laconi at Ducati DFX Corse), Troy Corser (BMW Motorrad), Shane Byrne (Ducati Sterilgarda), Jakub Smrz (Ducati Guandalini), Karl Muggeridge (replacement for Max Neukirchner) at Suzuki Alstare) and Carlos Checa (Honda Ten Kate).
David Checa (Yamaha GMT94 Ipone) was unfortunately unable to compete in the Superpole: he missed 4 tenth to get ahead of Baiocco … The Spaniard and his French R1 will therefore start from the 21st position.
In Supersport, Cal Crutchlow (Yamaha WSSP) also gets his 10th pole! However, the English rookie is less crushing the competition than in the last few meetings and we can hope to see a good fight at the forefront..
For this, we can count on the three motorcycles that will leave alongside the Yam ‘n ° 35: the ZX-6R n ° 26 of Joan Lascorz (Kawasaki Motocard.Com), the CBR n ° 54 of Kenan Sofuoglu (Honda Ten Kate) and especially the CBR n ° 50 of Eugene Laverty (Honda Parkalgar) which is only 2 points behind Cal in the provisional !
On the second row, Michel Pirro (Yamaha Lorenzini) places his R6 ahead of that of our first French representative Fabien Foret (Yamaha WSSP). Matthieu Lagrive, victim of a fall in qualifying, will start from 11th place, Olivier Four from 19th, Julien Enjolras from 24th and Fabrice Auger from 29th and last place.
