The four World Superbike free practice sessions at Magny-Cours took place on a dry track and Jonathan Rea had the best time on the grid: a 1 ‘37.750 signed on Friday afternoon. The 2015 WSBK world champion tackled the Superpole as a favorite ahead of his compatriots Davies, Haslam and Sykes.
But the drivers were finally forced to improvise because of the heavy rains that fell continuously during the two Superpole sessions. Particularly tricky in these conditions, the Nivernaise track brought down many – beautiful – people…
Starting with Aprilia Red Devils n ° 91, Leon Haslam, who fell two minutes from the end of Superpole 2 but finally rewarded for his big attack by obtaining the French Superpole, only the third pole of his career WSBK, the second of the year 2015.
Staying on his wheels until the end, Jonathan Rea failed just four thousandths of a second from the best time posted by the "Pocket Rocket". The 2015 world champion can not be really disappointed because at the same time, his little comrades and big rivals have dabbled in tar.
Chaz Davies in particular was on track to take pole position at the controls of his Ducati, but the Welsh n ° 7 suddenly lost the front by braking too hard on the descent to Lycee … "Chazie" qualifies all the same. leading the second row.
For the second round in a row, Niccolo Canepa finished qualifying with the enviable status of first Ducati rider. As in Jerez two weeks ago, the n ° 59 of Team Althea signs the third best time of the qualifiers … but half a second behind Haslam and Rea !
The first driver to have crashed in SP2, Tom Sykes did not have the chance to regain the track then the pits in order to quickly repair his machine, unlike Davies. Mister "Superpole" (29 to his credit!) Fails in the last place of the third row, behind Ayrton Badovini (BMW Italia) and Leon Camier (MV Agusta Corse).
Badly taken aback by his bike too, our dear Sylvain Guintoli is doing a little better than the 2013 champion since he will be accompanying Davies on the second row. The 2014 champion will precede Luca Scassa on the grid, replacing Davide Giugliano in France.
Guest rider at Magny-Cours, Markus Reitergerger impressed a lot during testing: the new IDM (German Superbike) champion qualified directly in SP2 in the dry. He finally hoists his BMW n ° 21 -! – in 10th place on the French grid.
Victim of a nasty fall in SP2, Alex Lowes was taken care of by the medical staff but should be able to line up tomorrow – in the dry most certainly! – at the controls of his Suzuki n ° 22. Jordi Torres, much less comfortable in the wet than his teammate Haslam, will complete the 4th row.
Finally, falling in Superpole 1, Randy de Puniet (Suzuki Voltcom Crescent) will start from a distant 19th place for his first two races in WSBK in front of his home crowd. Deprived of Superpole at the end of FP3, Christophe Ponsson (Kawasaki Pedercini) will start two places behind.
