Tom Sykes has just won hands down his second Superpole this season, the 21st of his career in World Superbike. The reigning world champion and his Kawasaki will start tomorrow ahead of Giugliano on Ducati and Guintoli on Aprilia…
Tom "Superpole" Sykes didn’t keep his right hand – bruised two weeks ago at Sepang in – in his pocket! On the contrary, he used it perfectly to wring out the right grip of his factory ZX-10R as much as possible and take pole position in the seventh round of the WSBK 2014. !
The “Number One” of the discipline was even the only driver to cover the 4.226 km of the Misano circuit in less than 1.35 this Saturday afternoon. It should also be noted that he obtained his third consecutive pole on the Italian track after the and the (Misano was not on the calendar last year).
Davide Giugliano finished two tenths behind the English Ninja and climbed for the fourth time in a row on the first row of the Superbike grid. More sensitive than the other machines to the bumps present in the last sector, its official 1199 Panigale has nevertheless made it difficult !
More fluent in his driving and with a visibly more docile RSV4 Factory, Sylvain Guintoli has used very well the new qualifying tire from Pirelli – softer than the old one but able to last two laps all the same – and completes the first line.
The Aprilia are on their 27 |
This weekend, the RSV4s are specially decorated to pay homage to Loris Reggiani. 27 years ago on this same Misano circuit during the San Marino GP 250, the rider gave Aprilia his first victory in motorcycle speed competition. ! To date, and all disciplines combined (SBK, GP, but also Supermotard and Trial!), Noale’s brand has posted 332 successes in the world championship, 27 manufacturer titles and 25 driver titles …. "Et c is not finished! ", as the other would say ! |
As in Sepang, Loris Baz was on track to take pole position at the end of SP2 (final phase of the Superpole): ahead of his teammate in the first half of the course, he nevertheless slackened in the second and must satisfy from 4th place.
Our "Green Giant" at n ° 76 is ahead of the two other Aprilia on the grid on the second row: official n ° 33 by Marco Melandri and private n ° 24 by Toni Elias. Author of the double in Malaysia, Marco dreams of repeating this feat in front of his audience: we can count on him to ensure a beautiful show this Sunday !
Third place is held by Welshman Chaz Davies (Ducati SBK Team), Northern Irishman Jonathan Rea (Honda Pata) and Irishman Eugene Laverty (Suzuki Voltcom Crescent). The three cousins of Englishman Tom Sykes will also be closely watched during tomorrow’s two races: first start at 10:30 a.m., don’t forget !
Like Giugliano, Canepa deserves a round of applause! Niccolo has indeed succeeded in hoisting his Ducati configured as an "Evo" to 10th place in "his" national grid. Team Althea n ° 59 precedes Alex Lowes (Suzuki Voltcom Crescent) and Leon Haslam (Honda "Pata … tra", since n ° 91 fell two minutes from the end!).
Third best time of SP1 – deprived of SP2 therefore, we must follow! – Davide Salom and his official Kawasaki Evo will take the 5th place ahead of the wildcard Matteo Baiocco, member of the Ducati Grande Corse team (who also rides in a config ‘Evo), and Ayrton Badovini on his Bimota BB3 Evo.
Thirteenth at the end of the three practice sessions, Sylvain Barrier finally ranks 17th for. The Frenchie n ° 52 is inserted between Claudio Corti (on the MV Agusta F4 now fully supported by the Varese factory, the Russian Yakhnich having suddenly withdrawn from the competition!) And the other Wildcard Ivan Goi (Ducati Barni Evo).
Sheridan Morais qualifies in 19th position at the controls of his ZX-10R Evo prepared by the Kawasaki Iron Brain Grillini team. The South African is ahead of our compatriot and 2002 Supersport World Champion! – Fabien Foret on his own Kawa ‘Evo from the Indian Mahi team.
Credited with the 21st fastest time at the end of the first three practice sessions, Chris Iddon (Bimota Alstare) was unable to take part in Superpole 1. The young English driver will therefore have to be content with this same place on the grid tomorrow during the two Superbike races.
Author of the 22nd fastest time, the last tricolor – blue, white, red – Jeremy Guarnoni will place his ZX-10R in the lead of 8th row, just ahead of two other Kawasaki Evos, prepared by the Pedercini team and driven by two Italian riders: the n ° 48 by Roberto Russo and n ° 21 by Alessandro Andreozzi.
The last Ninja on the board will sit at the top of the 9th row: it is Brian Staring’s # 67 (Kawasaki Iron Brain Grillini). This will be continued by Imre Toth on his S1000RR Evo (BMW Toth) and Aaron Yates on his American Superbike, EBR’s 1190 RX..
Their teammates Peter Sebestyen (BMW Toth) and Geoff May (EBR Hero) will be seated in that order on the 10th and last row, completed by the guest driver Michaël Savary – Swiss and not Italian! – on MV Agusta F4 RR.
