Why didn’t the World Superbike riders race on the same track as their counterparts in the American Superbike Championship, which was held at the same time this weekend at the Miller Motorsport Park circuit near Salt Lake City ?

We can only congratulate ourselves on the return of the World Superbike Championship to the United States, but why did the World Cup riders not race on the same track as their counterparts in the American Superbike Championship, which was held at the same time near from Salt Lake City (Utah) on the very recent Miller Motorsport Park circuit ?

The organizers have decided that the two Superbikes (World and American) taking place on the same weekend in Salt Lake City will not follow the same route..

The configuration of the Miller site allows this: the world championship took place on the 4.1 km route (used in 2006 and 2007 by the SBK AMA), while the American championship was run for the first time on the 7.2 km long route. It is therefore impossible to compare the performance of machines evolving in the two championships..

Only one benchmark: the track record set in SBK AMA by Ben Spies (Suzuki) in 2006: 1’49.1. A stopwatch to oppose that of Carlos Checa during his pole on Saturday: 1’48.1. One second is a lot. But that’s not much if we consider that these two performances are separated by two years of competition. !

Why did you agree that the two races would take place on the same weekend on the same circuit, but on two different tracks? ?

The mockers – to which I try not to belong too often! – suspect that saving pneumatic issues could be the reason.

Remember that Pirelli is the sole supplier of the Superbike world championship, while the American championship is open to all manufacturers … but Dunlop equips almost all of the teams there! Everyone therefore cultivates their own garden, in the fashion "I leave you the World Cup, you do not come to bore me in the US" and vice versa…

Have the two manufacturers come to an agreement to avoid too easy comparisons of times between the two championships? ?

Maybe they put pressure on the two promoters to end up with this somewhat absurd situation, but which suits everyone … But whatever the time, the important thing is ultimately not the show ?
