WSBK 2017: De Angelis joins the Kawasaki Pedercini team
Thirteenth in the Superbike World Championship riding an Aprilia RSV4, Alex de Angelis aims higher for his second WSBK season, which he will compete in a Kawasaki ZX-10R prepared by the Pedercini team. Explanations.
Victim of a terrible fall during the, Alex de Angelis has always retained the desire to return to the highest level of motorcycle competition. After six years of sailing between Moto2 and MotoGP, the San Marino relied on his transfer to World Superbike to relaunch his career….
Within the private Aprilia IodaRacing team, the n ° 15 showed remarkable consistency by entering points 19 times (out of 26 races). Back on the podium – – after four years of absence, Alex and his RSV4 did not shine enough elsewhere (only four other Top 10).
On the other side of the box, Lorenzo Savadori was more efficient: the young 2015 Superstock 1000 champion landed eight Top 6, a tenth place in (13th for De Angelis) … and a place in the new Aprilia Milwaukee team next to Eugene Laverty.
Eager to stay on an RSV4 in 2016 as well as part of "his" team – IodaRacing had him run in MotoGP 2015 on the "ART" CRT -, Alex de Angelis nevertheless had to review his plans and accept the offer of a another Italian team: Pedercini, which lines up Kawasaki ZX-10Rs.
The vice-world champion 125 (in 2003) and star of the GP250 (3rd in 2006 and 2007) is therefore counting on his experience gained during his first season as well as on his new mount to appear again in the world Top 10. Duo to follow next year on MNC: stay tuned !
Statements
Alex De Angelis:
"I’m really happy to have been able to strike a deal and be part of the Pedercini Racing Team. It’s a promising new adventure, with a bike that has demonstrated its competitiveness and continues to do so. I’m really proud to be the pilot of a team like this, but also aware of the load that rests on my shoulders because I know that next year we will have to fight to keep ourselves in the front ranks, also because of the new regulations. the experience and ability to do it, and I also know that I can count on a strong team of experts and a fast bike. Last but not least, I would like to thank my former team and in particular its manager Giampiero Sacchi, for the excellent relationship and the esteem that binds us. I know he did everything he could to continue working with me, but it just was not possible. This is also the reason for which I decided to join the Pederc team ini. I didn’t want to miss the great opportunity to work in a competitive Superbike team ".
Lucio Pedercini:
"I am really happy to have signed this contract with Alex, a pilot to whom we were very attached to lead our new project towards ever more ambitious goals. Alex is an expert in piloting, we are counting on him to play at the forefront in world championship. On the whole we can achieve our goals because the same firm determination guides us. I am creating around him a team capable of aiming high ".
