The 2013 World Superbike final in Spain has just started and two announcements overshadow the action on the track: Loris Baz will not be racing this weekend and Carlos Checa, 2011 world champion, is retiring.

French motorcycle speed fans were looking forward to seeing the World Superbike grand finale turn this Sunday in Jerez … There will unfortunately be only three: Sylvain Guintoli, Jules Cluzel and Sylvain Barrier !

"So I wouldn’t be driving in Jerez!", Loris Baz said indignantly at noon, since "the doctor who decides here whether the pilots are driving or not does not agree to let me ride, unlike the various teachers I have seen in France and Switzerland ".

"Now", reacts our Green Giant, "we have to think about 2014 and the tests this winter!" … within the official Kawasaki team with whom the n ° 76 will play a second (full) season in the WSBK. "Roll on Philip Island! And believe me, Bazooka will be at the forefront!"

Carlos Checa, on the other hand, will not be at the start next year: the Spanish rider, crowned in World Superbike in 2011 at the controls of the Ducati 1198, has decided to hang up. His 21st season in motorcycle speed competition was therefore his last.

We must admit that this year 2013 has proved both for "El Torro". The 1199 Panigale, with which the famous No.7 had signed the first Superpole of the season in Australia, subsequently disappointed a lot: Carlos in the first place !

Fourth in the championship over the good old 1198 last year, the former Grand Prix star and WSBK cador ended his career ranked 15th in the world and, as a small bonus, with a recovering hip. Sure that at the start of the season, Carlos imagined blowing out his 41 candles – last Tuesday – in better circumstances !

There remains his record, particularly impressive in World Superbike: 150 starts, 49 podiums, 24 victories, 30 lap records and 10 pole … In the premier class of the Grand Prix this time, Checa had won twice, had climbed on 22 other podiums and had signed 3 pole positions and 5 fastest times in the race.
