Unable to beat Tom Sykes at Donington Park, Jonathan Rea took his revenge this midday in Misano. Maintained under pressure throughout the race, the champion beat the poleman. Congratulations also to Van den Mark 3rd … and to Davies 4th despite the buzz at the start of the race ! First Misano Superbike race 2016 The ZX-10R n ° 66 rears up at the start,…
Unable to beat Tom Sykes at Donington Park, Jonathan Rea took his revenge this midday in Misano. Maintained under pressure throughout the race, the champion beat the poleman. Congratulations also to Van den Mark 3rd … and to Davies 4th despite the bouculade at the start of the race !
First Misano Superbike race 2016
The ZX-10R n ° 66 rears up at the start, forcing Tom Sykes to cut the throttle very stealthily … Jonathan Rea takes the opportunity to place his own Ninja in the lead of the race! Behind the two factory Kawasaki slip the Ducati of Davide Giugliano, the Yamaha of Alex Lowes and the Honda of Michael van de Mark.
Behind on the other hand, Xavi Fores had to make a slight gap in the entrance of the second corner and hit the Aprilia n ° 32 of Lorenzo Savadori … Chaz Davies and Leon Camier avoided the fall of extreme narrowness but momentarily left the track and join her last.
Rea completed an impeccable and relatively "quiet" first lap compared to Sykes, threatened by Giugliano. Tom is more enterprising in the second loop but does not find an opening on Johnny. Giugliano, Hayden and VDM follow a few lengths…
The two Honda riders gain a place when the n ° 34 Ducati loses the front in the Carro hairpin! The n ° 69 did not benefit long from his third place: Nicky also fell victim to a lowside at the very end of the 2nd lap! Unlike the Italian, the American has damaged his motorcycle too much to be able to set off again.
Van den Mark therefore replaced his teammate on the podium but could not keep up with the pace of the two Kawasaki at the front. At the controls of his good old Fireblade, "Magic Michael" on the other hand manages to outrun a peloton which is already no longer very dense…
Fourth on the track, Alex Lowes whips his factory R1 to fill the second between him and the # 60 Honda. The English rider himself has more than a second and a half ahead of the surprising Anthony West, fifth on Sylvain Barrier’s Kawasaki. !
The Australian freelance writer precedes Jordi Torres, Xavi Fores and Niccolo Canepa (replacing Sylvain Guintoli!). The Top 10 is completed by Markus Reiterberger and Roman Ramos … but the devil of Chaz Davies goes up the peloton like a ball and spices up this first SBK race in Misano !
On the 8th lap, n ° 7 Ducati was already in 7th place, just behind Fores. Leon Camier is no exception: the only MV Agusta driver is in 11th place! Alex Lowes on the other hand falls to 12th place after going off the track.
The unlucky Yamaha rider – oops, pleonasm! – yet seemed able to grab a Top 5. Did he hit his tires too hard at the start of the race? Is he beginning to suffer from his shoulder barely recovered from his fall in Sepang? The drivers’ declarations (online from Monday) will provide more information…
The halfway mark is crossed: in the lead since the red lights went out, Jonathan Rea turned a second slower than at the start of the race. Tom Sykes remains conscientiously in the wheel of the "Number One": faster in the middle of the course, "Major Tom" turns less quickly on the other sector…
Three seconds behind the leaders, Michael van den Mark continued his race alone. Two seconds later, Chaz Davies seizes fourth place occupied by Jordi Torres, just as the n ° 81 BMW completes its 13th lap.
Rea takes a lead of several lengths – barely a quarter of a second … – with seven laps to go. But Sykes responds tit for tat, returning to contact with his teammate in the next loop … Davies nibbles a few tenths of a second on the lap at Van den Mark, but risks running out of time to get on the podium..
The "mouse Jerry" Rea continues to play with the "cat" Tom Sykes: the n ° 1 continuously changes tempo as their distant pursuers manage to keep their respective rhythms, sometimes even rolling faster than the two leaders … Everything will be played in the final loop !
Rea and Sykes pass a latecomer (Ramos) on entering the last lap. The track becomes again completely clear for Jonathan Rea who can refine his trajectories: "the ruthless JR" carefully closes all the doors and wins less than a tenth of a second on the pole man "Super Sykes" !
The world champion can let his joy explode: it has been two months since he won a victory! The northern Irishman therefore not only continues his uninterrupted series of podiums this year, but increases his lead in the provisional standings by 5 points….
Michael van den Mark finished in a satisfactory third place, three seconds behind the unbeatable Kawasaki … Unbeatable really? Chaz Davies’ formidable comeback from the penultimate place (1st lap) to the fourth makes it possible to doubt … Check tomorrow, same time, same site: stay tuned !
