More braking, but a little less power

Yamaha lifts its mid-range bestseller MT-07 over the Euro 5 hurdle. In addition, the MT gets a revised look and improved brakes.

The big bang remains with the Yamaha MT-07 at the model year change. Gentle evolution is better. The front mask is equipped with a new LED headlight. In addition, new position lights and LED indicators are used.

Front brake system grows

A butted handlebar that is 32 millimeters wider, a new tank and a new bench all contribute to a more comfortable, upright sitting position. Winglets on the sides of the newly designed covers of the 14 liter fuel tank direct the flow of air towards the sharply shaped air intake ducts. New sports tires from Michelin (Pilot Road 5) ensure good grip and increased driving pleasure. The enlarged double disc brake system at the front provides more stop power. The discs increase in diameter from 282 to 298 millimeters.

Yamaha

Euro 5 costs 1 hp

Changes on the intake side as well as a modified injection have the 690 cm³ large CP2 two-cylinder together with a new exhaust system and a recalibrated engine control over the Euro 5 hurdle. In this configuration, the twin should respond even more linearly. The peak performance, however, drops to 74 hp, which is still present at 9,000 tours. The maximum torque is reduced by 1 Nm to 67, which accumulate unchanged at 6,500 rpm.

Yamaha

A new electronic control valve and a lightweight battery ensure a reliable engine start even after a long period of inactivity. The engine of the 2021 model also has new engine covers in the color Crystal Graphite as well as a new silver-colored exhaust pipe and new covers for the muffler and exhaust.

New cockpit, new colors

The pilot can look forward to a new LC display in the cockpit. The cockpit of the MT-07 is similar to that of the Tracer 700. It is a compact and lightweight multifunctional display with larger displays. All information is displayed in light digits on a dark background. The cockpit is operated via a new handlebar switch.

Yamaha

The 2021 model year is rounded off by new colors and new graphics. New black clutch and brake levers ensure a high-quality appearance and the cable connections in the cockpit area have been relocated to improve the look.

The new MT-07 will be available from dealers from March 2021 in the colors Storm Fluo, Icon Blue and Tech Black. The prices start at 6,999 euros (19% VAT) plus 375 euros for ancillary costs.

Conclusion

Yamaha has only cautiously developed its mid-range bestseller. As a customer, you are happy to take the larger brake, the lack of horsepower should not play a role when driving.
