Yamaha Super Tenere: The BMW GS Competitor in Images

Already the name of the new Yamaha travelenduro sounds like Sahara and adventure: from 14 750 euros expensive Super Tenere now wants to build on the successful times of Japanese desert ships with a lot of high tech.

But on the first test stage with the new bike of Paris to Toulouse, it is more likely to wipe the snow from the visor as the dirt to curect. At the top of the 1231 meter high Col de Legal in the French Central Massif there is sensitive cold in the middle of May. But the Super Tenere is also a good choice for the cool weather. The versatile all-rounder, a "everywhere-bike" quasi, reminiscent of the same name of 1990, which the Tenere – a sandy section of the Sahara – Locker mastered and the legendary Rallye Paris-Dakar could win seven times.

So much displacement like BMWS GS

But with this sturdy Enduro, the new one has little mean, that already starts at the engine: The rowzweilinder is significantly larger with 1199 CCM than the 750er aggregate at that time, which is quite understood as a battle announcement at the classprimus, the BMW R 1200 GS, may. As this comes the Yamaha with four valve technique, injection and cardan drive therefore. However, not in boxer, but series configuration and water cooled as at the first Super Tenere.
With her 110 hp, the Yamaha is at the level of the Munich competition. Powerful, powerful and with a low-vibration, slightly high-rotating character can convince the parallel twin. At the travel tempo of 130 km / h on the author route to the south, there are enough reserves for quick overtaking and up to 210 km / h top speed. Behind a small, but only complicated adjustable disk, the wind pressure at the upper body remains quite low.

Hight Tech instead of primevalness

Notwithstanding the "Hard Men Images", the Super Tenere is a highly specialized bike with a lot of high-tech: the gas is electronically, a two-step adjustable or completely switchable traction control facilitates the throttle control at the curve output. In addition, two driving modes are available: "Sport" for ambitious curvants or "touring" for a gentle response.
Although the frame consists of comparatively simple steel profiles, the Yamaha remains stable and stiff like a three days old baguette. Especially with the robust aluminum suitcases and the handprotectors, she makes an indestructible impression in the everyday traffic jam of French cities. And although the Yamaha is anything but small and light, she lets her run well controllable by the cars – thank the deep focus and centralized masses.

Agile, but not sporty-tight

On curvy country roads, it precisely relies slight direction orders on the wide handlebar and behaves far more agile and light-footed than it suspects the technical data. Only extremely hard dangers make their very long, comfortable spring trails in slight inaccuracies when driving noticeable. Here you miss a little the electronic suspension adjustment of the BMW R 1200 GS. Since it is the practical spring base adjustment of the strut by handwheel no replacement. No criticism, on the other hand, is available in the intelligent and effective combination brake system with ABS, which is especially proven in rain.
The 23-liter tank and the associated range of more than 300 kilometers are a blessing. To do this, the width and height variable fit, because it offers a chaise longue-like comfort, so even eleven hours in the saddle does not fall too difficult. A surprisingly good impression makes the Super Tenere as offroaders. The difficulties of wavy and bumbled unpaved paths master suspension like mature surprisingly sovereign. The mix of a continuous drive, functional chassis and robust character is actually suitable for one or the other off-road stage.

Almost so much extras as at BMW

Yamaha offers a wide range of accessories for the Super Tenere: from higher slices to heating handles. So the bike is ready for everyday life and travel for every climate. The BMW comes with the Super Tenere as a tourer, everyday bike and globetrotter a very serious opponent, even if you can expect for a price of just under 14 750 euros standard heating handles.

  1. So rather a GS
So far I have seen her only and was quite impressed. If Yamaha but in competition … If you want to kick GS, then you should not exaggerate the price at the price – I also get the GS for that (now have one after the 1150gs). The cohesion of the accessory is missing the Yamaha and VOlig rightly reprimanded: no in-arm windows, no heating handles. I do not need electronics Firefanz.

  2. Battle announcement
Hurray, finally a comparable moped something again tried to penetrate into the BMW Class. Like the Yam dealer insured, some GS driver have already ordered the new. After initial driving attempts one could also make a picture. Well again a new concept, but already outdated. No intriguing, no heating license. and a price.. I prefer to buy a GS 1200.

  3. Since BMW has committed in the Yamaha Revier
(with the BMW S 1000 RR against Yamaha R1) came the answer from Yamaha to the top Seller from Bavaria. With the same helpers (traction control / ABS) the BMW still has to develop for the GS (better said Bosch adapts for the GS). The price is cleaned cleaned also absolutely competitive. I’m looking forward to the first contact (Telelever I find stupid) with the new Super Tenere

  4. The better alternative…
The BMW is the Moto Guzzi Stelvio. Especially as NTX. Better optics, better sound, better engine concept, to worlds better brakes. And no one needs this whole electronic suspension snipe. Because whoever constantly adjusts his chassis?

  5. No chance
The Yamaha is much heavier and even more expensive than the place deer from Munich. She has nothing, what the BMW did not have (or yet?). If anything, will probably only buy notorious BMW Hasser this motorcycle.

  6. Who buys in this category
buys, I think something else. At Yamaha, I miss worthy successors of the XT 500 and SR 500.

  7. Certainly a good motorcycle
But I do not believe that you can crying nominal value on the GS market. For BMW drivers, other values include, a VW Photeon is certainly a very good car, but like the Yamaha has no top class image.
