Yamaha Zuma 125: Even more robust in appearance

Even more robust in appearance
Yamaha has introduced the new Zuma 125 in the USA. The little scooter has an even more striking off-road look and has a new engine with variable valve control.

the Yamaha Zuma has a long tradition that goes back almost 20 years. In Europe, the Zuma story began with the structurally identical Yamaha BWs models, which in turn were derived from the MBK Booster models. Boosters and BWs died out in Europe, while the Zuma held the flag high in other markets.
The transformation of the new Zuma 125 for the 2022 model year can be described as tame too snappy. The look has become much more robust, the appearance is clearly aimed in the direction of off-road and adventure.
Edgy off-road look
A clear indicator of this are the now coarse-tread 12-inch tires in the dimensions 120/70 at the front and 130/70 at the rear. The rear fairing became angular, longer and equipped with a luggage rack. The front shield now has double round headlights in a military look and a mini luggage rack above. Handlebar protectors keep your hands dry. An LC display in the cockpit provides information. A USB charging socket supplies mobile devices with power. For better control, the seat height of the bench is lowered in the front area. Nevertheless, there should be space for a full-face helmet in the storage compartment underneath. The 33 mm telescopic fork and the repositioned stereo struts at the rear come with a little more spring travel and a new set-up. Both wheels are decelerated with a disc brake system in combination with a CBS system.

New single cylinder
Yamaha
The air-cooled 125 single-cylinder is completely new. It relies on less bore and more stroke as well as a new variable valve control and higher compression. Overall, the new single is said to have lower consumption and emissions, but be more powerful. Yamaha does not name performance data, but around 13 hp should already be available.
In the USA, the new Yamaha Zuma 125 will start in July in the color combinations Yamaha blue and matt black at prices from 3,699 dollars – the equivalent of around 3,000 euros. Zuma is not coming to Europe.
Conclusion
In the USA, Yamaha is launching a new Zuma generation. It mutates into an off-road scooter and has a completely new single-cylinder engine. Zuma is not coming to Europe.
