WSSP Imola: the Supersport race postponed by two hours…
The World Supersport riders were entitled to two starts this afternoon at Imola … but no finish! Delayed the first time, restarted twice, the Italian WSSP race will be contested after the second Superbike round… Mamma mia.
A few minutes from the start, the official Yamaha team is still working on the R6 of Caricasulo, which fell this morning during the warm-up. The little comrades of the Italian pilot join the track for the formation lap. At the exit of the pits for the warm-up lap, the Yamaha n ° 64 breaks down again…
The unfortunate rookie will not start from his fourth place … not even from the back of the grid! He was forced to retire and joined the edge of the track with his motorcycle! The departure is delayed by a few minutes. The pilots turn off their engines, the mechanics install the heating blankets … The race is shortened by one lap (16).
Departure : Lucas Mahias and Christian Gamarino kick off the poleman Patrick Jacobsen who comes out third in the first sequence ahead of Sheridan Morais, Kyle Smith and Kyle Ryde who fight from the start, Kenan Sofuoglu, Hikari Okubo and his teammate – our compatriot – Jules Cluzel, Jack Kennedy, etc.
Gamarino sets up his Honda in the lead in the middle of the first lap, ahead of the official Yamaha No. 144 of the championship leader (Mahias, "who else?"). Roberto Rolfo falls into the final chicane of the circuit while taking a desperate pass.
The Italian and his Italian waltz on the track in a sheaf of gravel and are gently buffered by a competitor. "Robby" quickly moves away from the path then raises his F3. The red flags are however waved: the marshals will have to sweep up…
The Supersport race is cut by five other laps (11 therefore). Caricasulo misses the formation lap again, but will still be able to participate in this Italian sprint. He will have to start from the back of the grid, to try to score a point, collect data and ride in front of his fans !

Second start: Lucas Mahias takes an even better start and hoists his R6 in the lead, ahead of the ZX-6R of Kenan Sofuoglu, the F3 of PJ Jacobsen, the R6 (old model) of Sheridan Morais, the CBR600RR of Christian Gamarino, Kyle Smith and Hikari Okubo , the (new) R6 of Federico Caricasulo (?), the CBRs of Jules Cluzel and Jack Kennedy, etc.
Our champion (of France SSP 2014) Lucas finished the first lap four tenths of a second ahead of the hunting group made up of Kenan, PJ and Sheridan. The unexpected Federico battles our national "Julo" and his teammate Hikari. But he receives a penalty (passage to the pit) for not having started from the last place on the grid…
In front, n ° 1 Sofuoglu overtakes n ° 144 Mahias in the left double Rivazza at the end of the 2nd lap. But the simultaneous falls of Rolfo (again!), Watanabe and Malone lead to a new exit of the red flags! In order to maintain the start of the flagship event of the day (SBK at 1 p.m.), the Supersport race is finally postponed until later this afternoon. Stay connected !
