Certainly, Harley began to get used to beautiful, stripped-down customs, sometimes Bobber tend, often very worked in style. Only there, this chopper goes much further: it looks like the work of a trainer. Beautifully naked with its long teardrop tank, minimalist at will to let the gaze branch naturally towards the big twin, the FURY 1300 is a superb representation of the custom-chopper art dedicated to America. Really good work from the Milwaukee plant….…… But, there’s something wrong: 1300cc – could that be a new Harley displacement? Let’s take a look at the datasheet to understand. A big twin of exactly 1312 cm3, 300 kilos, big rear tire 200 mm wide and tiny front 90 mm, simple brake disc but huge with 336 mm; So far so good.
But what the hell?!? Single overhead camshafts, 3 valves per cylinder, PGM-FI injection, liquid cooling….…. Name of Zeus! It’s not a Harley, it’s a Japanese, a HONDA !
You too are stunned; there is something. The Japanese manufacturer had already surprised us with its enormous VTX 1800, but to go so far in style, to create a chopper of this stature, to challenge the H-D preparers on their own soil, you had to have a good pair of…. pistons to venture there. This is the mission of this new 1300 Fury: to show the rebellious side of Honda, and to offer a radical, pure, looking “hand-built” machine..
The 1300 is, as it should be, a superbly highlighted twin. With its “long stroke” dimensions, its 3 valves per cylinder and its double exhaust guns, the mill must provide serious character and a beautiful sound of rican. Hope it lives up to the Fury design.
Because this chopper has really been shy. Take a closer look at its clean, uncluttered lines. See how the water heater is particularly well integrated (although purists will swear by air cooling). Not a single wire sticking out – apart from the throttle cables and brake hoses, everything is stashed away. Note how the stern is fleshy, contrasting remarkably with the fine, uncluttered, openwork front. Have you noticed the gimbal? Well concealed isn’t it, behind the left leg of the swinging arm.
Between the two superb 18- and 21-inch rims, nothing less than a wheelbase of 1808mm, complemented by a 38 ° rake angle – a true aircraft carrier. Class on the handlebars, but certainly an even worse effort than on the V-Max to make it run.
Really good job from Honda; but what a pity that this sculpture is decked out with really too cheap plastic chrome elements. This chopper deserves better. Good news, the Fury is not limited to living with Uncle Sam and will be available from October 2009 for less than 15,000 euros. But in its crossing of the Atlantic, this chopper has lost two colors (it will only be available in black and blue) and its surname has changed from FURY to … VT 1300 CX.
