24 Heures Motos - 3:00 p.m. - Honda returns to Le Mans! -

Six years after Honda’s last victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the National Motos team is showing its name on the track record by winning ahead of the 2005 and 2004 world champions: the Suzuki n ° 1 and the Yamaha n ° 94.

At the end of a particularly eventful end of the race (read in particular), and after taking the controls four hours from the end, the CBR 1000 n ° 55 of National Motos won with two laps ahead of the Suzuki n No. 1 in the SERT and thirteen laps on the Yamaha No. 94 in the GMT, respectively world endurance champions 2005 and 2004 !

It is therefore a great comeback for Honda, which had not won at Le Mans since the victory in 2000 of the VTR SP-1 led by … William Costes, Sebastien Charpentier and Sebastien Gimbert !

With more than 80,000 spectators according to the organizers and very good weather, the controversial return of the 24 Heures Moto to the calendar of the World Endurance Championship turns out to be rather successful in the end. !

In the Superproduction category, the Suzuki n ° 10 of Infini Team won first place with Christophe Michel, Jerôme Tangre and Vincent Bocquet. 5th overall, they are followed at eight laps by the fire brigade crew on Suzuki n ° 18 piloted by Stephane Molinier, Guillaume Grelaud and Guillaume Pialoux. The Kawasaki n ° 16 of the Raffin Motos team, in the hands of Damien Chene, Pascal Grosjean and Stephane Kokes, comes third four laps from the n ° 18.

On the Superstocks side, first place goes to the n ° 83 Kawasaki of Maccio Racing and its crew made up of Sebastien Derosa, Laurry Fremy and Renaud Moisan, followed two laps away by the n ° 100 Suzuki of Endurance Moto 45 driven by Thomas Perreau, Nicolas Duprez and David Brière. Very good third place finally for the Aprilia n ° 79 of the Italian team Aprilia Motociclismo, led by Daniele Veghini, Federico Aliverti and Fabrizio Pellizzon just one lap behind the n ° 100.

"It’s disappointing for us because we’re not on the top step of the podium, but I’m happy for Christian (Lavieille, team manager of the Honda n ° 55 of National Motos, NDLR) because his whole team deserves it !", concludes sportingly Dominique Meliand.

As for Christophe Guyot, even if an immense disappointment can be read in his black eyes, he observes with philosophy about the 3rd place of the GMT that "it’s already very good to be there"…

"If we had been told at 6 a.m. that we would be third, we would have said yes right away !", confirms Sebastien Gimbert.

Congratulations to all the competitors and see you in September at Magny-Cours for the Bol d’Or 2006 !
