The 2016 World Endurance Championship, which now has four categories, will start on April 9 and 10 with the 24 heures Motos du Mans. The Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) has just unveiled the 58 teams that will take the start. Presentations.

Two major sporting innovations should be highlighted at the 2016 24 Hours of Motorcycles and at the races of the World Endurance Championship. On the one hand, four categories are admitted at the start: Formula EWC, Superstock, Experimental (formerly Open) and the new Supertwin category, which aims to "attract new endurance manufacturers and bring together bicyclist motorcycles homologated by the technical regulations of the FIM".

On the other hand, up to 60 motorcycles are now authorized not only for practice but also for racing, unlike in past years when 60 machines could be accepted for practice but only 56 to take the start. For 2016, they will therefore be 58 in practice and 58 at the start.

Five major manufacturers are officially entered in the 2016 24 Heures Motos: Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Honda and BMW.

With a second success in a row in April 2015, the Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (SERT) is aiming for a pass of three in order to definitively bring the 24 Heures Motos trophy back to its workshop. The team of Dominique Meliand, reigning world champion, relies on stability by returning Vincent Philippe, Anthony Delhalle and Etienne Masson to the handlebars of the GSX-R 1000 n ° 1.

Yamaha will be represented by two factory bikes with on the one hand the R1 of GMT 94, world endurance champion in 2014, which has put together a new crew combining speed and experience with David Checa, Louis Rossi and Niccolò Canepa (read ), and on the other hand that of YART in the hands of Broc Parkes, Max Neukirchner and Sheridan Morais.

At Kawasaki, the official SRC team – winner of the Bol d’Or in September – will try to capitalize on this victory to win the 24 Heures Motos with Gregory Leblanc, Fabien and Mathieu Lagrive riding the new ZX10R.

On the Honda side, Julien da Costa, Freddy Foray and Sebastien Gimbert on the CBR 1000 will fight for their first success in a 24-hour race while BMW, which returned to the endurance world championship last year thanks to the team German Penz13.com, also made a victory at the 24 Heures Motos a major objective. The S1000RR will be entrusted to two former endurance world champions, Kenny Foray and Mathieu Gines, supported by former Moto GP world championship rider Lukas Pesek.

Besides these official teams, the EWC category has 20 private competitors who can compete with the tenors. Among them, the n ° 8 Kawasaki of Team Bolliger Switzerland which is entering its 35th endurance season and is ranked 3rd in .

It will also be necessary to count on the Suzuki of Team April Moto Motors Events, that of Team R2CL or on the F.C.C TSR Honda team, one of the best Japanese endurance teams in the hands of Kazuma Watanabe, Alan Techer and Damian Cudlin.

Finally, with 37 competitors, the Superstock category is the most extensive and represents more than 60% of the field. The Junior Team Le Mans Sud Suzuki (Baptiste Guittet, Romain Maitre, Robin Camus and Eddy Dupuy), will be keen to defend its title and will have to resist in particular Émeric Jonchiere, Morgan Berchet and Anthony Loiseau of Team Louit Moto 33 Traqueur, champion of the category world last year.

The Kawasaki of Tati Team Beaujolais Racing (Julien Enjolras, Kevin Longearet and Dylan Buisson) intends to join in this battle, just like the Kawasaki of Team 18 Sapeurs-Pompiers which will return to the 24 Heures Motos after a year of absence. . Note also the entry of an Aprilia RSV4 by the Aprilia Le Mans 2 Roues team from Le Mans and a Suzuki GSX "S" Roadster by MD Motosport / Cottard Motos.

Finally, the Experimental category (motorcycles not approved for the endurance world championship or modified beyond the limits of the regulations) has a single machine, the now classic Metiss 1000 from Team Metiss JLC Moto with its patented triangulated front end, imagined and designed by the dentist from Manceau Jean-Bertrand Brunea.

For this first year, no Supertwin will be on the starting line of the 24 Heures Motos 2016 which is therefore made up of 58 teams (20 Formula EWC, 37 Superstock and one Open) representing ten nationalities: France (45), Germany (4) , Great Britain (2), Switzerland (1), Austria (1), Italy (1), Poland (1), Japan (1), Slovakia (1) and Czech Republic (1).

The competitors of the 24 Heures Motos 2016 will meet on the Bugatti circuit on March 29 and 30 for two days of free and non-compulsory practice, and the start of this 39th edition will be given on Saturday April 9 at 3:00 p.m. To follow naturally on MNC: stay connected !
