Due to travel restrictions related to Covid-19, the 24 Heures Motos 2020 scheduled for August 29 and 30 will take place behind closed doors and ticket holders will receive a credit. Explanations.

The best place to attend the 43rd edition of the 24 Heures Motos will be from your sofa, since the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO), in agreement with the Federation internationale de motocyclisme (FIM), the Federation française de motocyclisme (FFM) ) and Eurosport Events, promoter of the EWC Motorcycle Endurance World Championship, have decided to organize the famous motorcycle endurance race behind closed doors.

"Exceptional conditions require exceptional decisions on our part", explains Pierre Fillon, president of the ACO: "the 24 Heures Motos 2020 will certainly be held behind closed doors, but they will indeed take place. It has been our priority ever since. the beginning. For our teams, our partners, for the FIM EWC endurance world championship, for motorcycles, it is imperative. These 24 Heures Motos will be special without our public, but be assured that we will put everything working to share with him, wherever he is, our passion and our race ".

Difficult decision

For his part, the president of the FFM Jacques Bolle prefers "of course the 24 Heures Motos without spectators than no 24 Hours at all. This completely exceptional health crisis leads us to adapt and imagine the unimaginable! Spectators absent but many viewers will be present to follow the exploits of our world championship drivers. In any case, I am sure that we will have a very good race and that the French crews will be at the forefront ".

Finally François Ribeiro, director of Eurosport Events, promises that his teams will redouble their efforts to "bring fans to the heart of the 24 Heures Motos through our TV programs and digital content, especially with those who wanted to come together at Le Mans. The closed door is the antipodes of the values of sharing and proximity of motorcycle endurance, but ensuring the continuity of the world championship is the absolute priority in the current health context to protect the teams ", but" we support this difficult decision to ACO ".

Ticket information

Ordinance n ° 2020-538 of May 7, 2020 allows the organizers of sporting events to "derogate from the principle of immediate reimbursement of tickets by allowing to grant instead a credit in the event of postponement, cancellation or event taking place behind closed doors ", specifies the ACO, which has chosen to activate this order within the framework of the closed session of the 24 Heures Motos.

"No action is to be taken on the part of ticket buyers, the ticketing service will automatically transmit the credits in the coming weeks", continues the organizer of the motorcycle endurance event, stressing that "the people who bought their tickets in ticketing networks outside ACO (Francebillet, Ticketmaster, Le Mans Tourist Office or works council) are invited to get closer to their point of purchase ".

The ACO finally specifies that logically, "only the price of the ticket can be the subject of a credit note, excluding any costs of shipping tickets and all ancillary costs (transport, hotel, etc.) ".
