Metropolis 2020, the revival of the three-wheel scooter at Peugeot ?
Peugeot Motocycles is proud to present its new three-wheel scooter: the Metropolis 400! This third evolution intends to revolutionize the segment thanks to its car-like appearance and lion-like stature, its standard mechanics and its exceptional connectivity…. MNC presentation and official video.
By connecting to the official Peugeot Motocycles YouTube channel last night, Internet users were able to follow the digital presentation of the new Metropolis live. Still online (and relayed at the bottom of this article), the video allows you to discover the third generation of the French three-wheeler, truly "made in France" in the Mandeure factory….
Although flying the Indian flag since its complete takeover by the Mahindra Group, the brand of scooters – and soon motorcycles, again! – insists indeed on the kinship which binds its maxiscooter accessible to motorists, and cars of the Peugeot brand "automobiles", precisely.
- MNC of August 26, 2020 :
- MNC of November 15, 2019 :
To capture the attention of potential "scootomobilists" tired of wasting time and money in traffic jams, frightened by coronavirus public transport, attracted by the convenience of a scooter but put off by the poor performance of a 125 cc, Peugeot Motocycles first reviewed the design of its tricycle.
Finally, the Metropolis 2020 is hardly different from the Metropolis RS Concept unveiled at the last Eicma show. Imposing grille, luminous lion’s canines as on the 508, dashboard inspired by the 308 – or rather pitted with the Pulsion! – with color TFT screen, three-claw rear lights, integrated indicators: everything is there !
Ditto connectivity question: the manufacturer had already announced the arrival of new features on a three-wheeler. As a reminder, the turn-by-turn GPS guidance and the display of calls and some of the SMS messages received must attract consumers … without disturbing the attention of drivers !?
Another asset – obligation in fact – of this new Metropolis: its Euro5 mention which it gets thanks to a major overhaul of its 400i LFE single-cylinder (for Low Friction Engine, we are not translating you!). Peugeot specifies that the Metropolis "can circulate whatever the conditions, with the Crit’Air 1 sticker" … until further notice, of course.
3-wheeler, Made in France, anti-Covid, connected and Crit-Air 1…
"A lot of work has been done on the friction elements and their weight, the timing of the injection and the mapping, so as to optimize the performance of the engine and reduce its emissions", ask us to believe the engine manufacturers who have succeeded in maintain – scrupulously! – the maximum values and consumption at the same level as on the "noisy and polluting" Euro 4 version…
Based on the data currently available on the official Peugeot Motocycles website, the Metropolis still develops 26.2 kW (converted into 35.632 hp) and 38.1 Nm, for an average consumption still estimated at 3.9 l / 100 km despite a significant weight gain: 15 kg more on the manufacturer’s scale !
"These characteristics give it better autonomy, which can reach 300 km with a full 13.5 l against 285 km on the previous version", calculates for us and yet Peugeot Motocycles. To be checked during a next MNC test, or a duel against the reference MP3 500 ?!
Already available in Peugeot dealerships – Motocycles, pas automobiles! -, the 2020 Metropolis is available in two versions: Active and Allure, "the best-selling to date". Customers who are more sporty at heart – but fewer in number – will have to wait for their variant scheduled for 2021.
More upscale, the Metropolis Allure is distinguished by its trunk mats, chrome bar ends, USB socket, black and shiny wheels, premium mirrors and by its four colors: metallic white, metallic night blue, matt black and intense blue ( gray color and unique on the Active).
Please note, only the Allure version has the i-Connect functionality on which Peugeot communicates a lot. This connectivity and the cosmetic bonuses mentioned above translate into a slight additional cost: count 8,999 euros for the Metropolis Active, against 9,699 euros for the Allure model which is therefore placed just below the MP3 500 Business (9,999 euros)..
- Duel MNC Tricity 300 Vs MP3 300 HPE Sport :
On its official website, Peugeot keeps in its virtual catalog the old version of the Metropolis Allure, displayed at 9,499 euros. A dressy way to highlight the minimal price increase of the French three-wheeler. MNC notes that it does not change much in terms of chassis, judge instead…
