The brake discs, on the other hand, are not that fresh. But don’t worry: it’s all just rust.

The odometer reading remained almost untouched. The Hyousung GT 650 S has just covered 3582 kilometers.

First the sales arguments for the Hyosung GT 650 S: According to the previous owner, the headlight of the GT looks very similar to that of an MV Agusta.

Until then, Hyosung is not building its own motorcycles at all. Patrick Reinhold receives 2,450 euros for his comparatively young bike.

The budget is fixed: it should be a motorcycle under 3000 euros. But how do you decide? Let your head or your gut decide? MOTORRAD dares to try and accompanies two very different candidates.

The GT’s shock absorber caused problems on the drive home. What this is all about is in the second part of the series: Vernunft und Wahnsinn, which appears in MOTORRAD 20/2013.

reason & craziness
The budget is fixed: it should be a motorcycle under 3000 euros with all the trimmings. But which one should you choose? And above all how? Let your head or your stomach do the talking? New value versus cult. MOTORRAD accompanies two very different candidates for one season.

reason
My house, my car, my boat – does it always have to be the best and best? Only good if a well-known brand logo is emblazoned on it? Not really. And in this particular case: almost not. The tank emblem was not placed in Bologna, but in a community of 24 people in Schonbuch in Upper Franconia. By Patrick Reinhold, the previous owner of Hyosung GT 650 S..

Anyone who thinks there is a sheep in wolf’s clothing is mistaken: at least 77 hp, built in 2009, just 3500 kilometers, for less than 3000 euros. First someone should imitate that. Korean arguments already convinced me with my first moped, a Daelim VS 125 F. The bid was 724 euros and after three, two, one it was mine. From then on the world was mine. At least the part that could be reached with a top speed of 80 km / h.
The Ducati lettering is free
On the 125, a Honda engine tinkered under the tank, on the used one Hyosung the designers from Korea oriented themselves conspicuously precisely to the unit of the Suzuki SV 650. Is that enough as a basis for solid technology? It’s smart to try, after a short chat you’ll go on a test drive.
Brakes, tracks, noises, everything in the frame, but the tires slip on the damp country roads of Upper Franconia. And the chassis is not one of the Hyosung’s qualities – but it is known. Well, everything as expected, let’s start the price negotiations! “The headlight is something of MV, right?” Begins Patrick Reinhold. In real life, the young family man sells cars and didn’t really want to give up the GT, but rather park in the garage next to the new Yamaha Midnight Star – no problem as a homeowner in the country: there is enough space. “The Ducati lettering is free on top of that, it usually costs extra,” the provider justifies its brave starting bid of 3000 euros.
You can currently get a new 650 Hyosung for 4495 euros thanks to a discount campaign. So there is still some room for improvement, after all we are talking about a used one. Naughty, I’ll subtract a third. After a lot of back and forth every 50 euros, we agree on 2450 euros. Including Italian lettering.

An inner voice yells at me: “THIS MOTORCYCLE MAKES NO SENSE!” It is the voice of reason. I reply to her: “Just shut up.” The Eliminator doesn’t need a human, but that’s what makes it so appealing. The 900 Kawa: a fire chair, a rocker machine, a riot brother – is not suitable for traveling, passengers are scared, it would fail completely on the racetrack. And the used one here also has a few quirks in the form of small dents, re-sprayed paint and old tires. 36,000 miles, or 58,000 kilometers, on the clock are not just like paper. But no matter when salesman Frank Engel leads me into the underground car park catacombs of an apartment building in Cologne-Raderberg, I like the machine straight away.
The week before I was still looking for a Yamaha Vmax, a childhood dream. But the offer up to a maximum of 3000 euros was poor: Either in post yellow or terribly converted or only as a performance-capped euro version. No, didn’t fit. I remembered: Kawasaki brought the 100 PS strong ZL 900 with (at that time) ultra-sporty GPZ engine as a Vmax traffic light start opponent (aha: it makes sense).
The Eliminator is a pure men’s motorcycle
And now this sound when starting: Yeah, if the Vmax sounds as rock-rock as AC / DC, then this is Hardcore Metal – Slayer, Angel of Death! Supplier Frank Engel smiles and explains that the machine has been his own since 1993. Back then, he was already riding a 600 Eliminator as a motorcycle rookie, but was hot for the big one. In Mannheim, a US import was offered at a fair price.
What Frank did not suspect during the test drive as a passenger: The provider was a rail professional and wheeled and drifted mercilessly with the prospective customer in his luggage. Until he clapped in sweat. The unusual sales method worked because Frank immediately signed the sales contract. With one exception, he went to the annual Eliminator meeting and wants to maintain this tradition even after separating from his Ellie, even if he will travel to BMW from now on. He bought it because Frank’s girlfriend categorically refuses to ride on the ZL 900. Well, just a pure men’s motorcycle. I have a good feeling, think about it for a moment and say: “Buy.” 24 Hundreds on the table, signature, handshake, one more coffee break, done, vrrroam!
