Dainese D-air Street: the five-star motorcycle airbag !
The French body SRA (Automobile Safety and Repair) awarded the maximum score (5 stars) to the Dainese D-air Street electronic airbag, one star more than its main French competitor: the Bering airbag vest (see in particular our Bering wireless airbag survey).
The French body SRA (Automobile Safety and Repair) awarded the maximum score (to the electronic airbag, one star more than its main French competitor: the Bering airbag vest (read in particular our).
For the SRA, which also labels motorcycles and scooters, the Italian system stands out thanks to its extremely short intervention time: only 45 milliseconds to deploy after detection of a shock or loss of control, compared to 80 milliseconds for the Bering (read in particular our).
"Already certified by the German certification body, TÜV Sud, Dainese D-Air is thus outstripping its competitors, whether they are wired or electronic," says the world’s leading equipment manufacturer..
Attractive but expensive safety equipment
As a reminder, the operation of the Dainese and Bering electronic airbags is based on the same technical principles: sensors (accelerometers, in particular) installed on the two-wheeler provide information to an electronic control unit which triggers the inflation of a protective cushion on the shoulders, the back, thorax and collarbones.
The deflation is automated and occurs 5 seconds after impact for the D-air (6 seconds for the Protect Air Bering). In terms of prices, however, the difference is more substantial: 1298 euros for the Dainese airbag vest against "only" 899 euros for the Bering (installation of the sensor kit on the motorcycle or the scooter included in both cases).
Dainese also offers a version with which the airbag is directly integrated into a waterproof motorcycle jacket, the D-air Street Gore-Tex, at a price of 2098 euros (installation of the kit included).
