All Tests - Honda reinvests low-cost with the CBF 125 - Senile engine ...

Titillated by the success of the Yamaha YBR and by that of a multitude of low-cost motorcycles from various origins – China, but also Korea or Taiwan -, Honda launched in January 2009 a new entry-level: the CBF 125. What is worth -it in use ? Test !

Senile motor…

For more seasoned bikers, this first impression of ease is nevertheless tarnished from the very first acceleration: it drags and it vibrates! From his first blow of gas, a regular of large engines in fact immediately reaches the red zone then the switch of the poor 4-stroke mono.

On the handlebars of the CBF 125, it is therefore necessary to moderate your enthusiasm and quickly upshift – the gearbox plays its role well – in order to stay in the right range of engine speed. A range of use that cannot be quantified, given the absence of tachometer on the dashboard…

Finally, this table lists a speedometer, an odometer and a partial trip, a fuel gauge – so this is the second counter! – and four warning lights: full headlight, indicators, neutral and engine oil.

In the absence of a red zone indicator, therefore, the CBF warns of the arrival of over-revving by unpleasant vibrations which rise from the feet, pass through the thighs and reach the buttocks. At this last stage, the breaker is not far away while the maximum torque (11 Nm at 6,250 rpm) has long been exceeded !

Fortunately, we quickly adopt the rhythm of the "old" engine and the vibrations are then confined to the brake pedal and the footrest plates, which we carefully avoid touching so as not to catch ants. So we just keep the tiptoes on the footrests, effectively isolated from the beating of the engine by their thick layer of rubber.

On the expressway, comfort is limited by the absence of protection and the slight tingling perceptible in the hands and legs. Lying on the tank, shoulders curled up, thighs hidden behind the sides and one hand in the back, the CBF 125 can reach 138 km / h meter. Not enough to trigger a speed camera on the motorway: thank you the 4-stroke mono !
