Tracker launches its motorcycle version
The Tracker system for the detection and recovery of stolen vehicles, available since 2002 in France but until then reserved for cars, now exists for motorcycles. Discovery in preview.
Until now reserved for motorists, the system Tracker can now equip two-wheelers thanks to a version Tracker Rider, smaller, which was fitted today for the first time on a motorcycle.
The Tracker Rider, first advertised for "during 2003"(read), is directly derived from the system Tracker detection and recovery of stolen vehicles which already equips "35,000 subscribers in cars and public works machinery"according to its manufacturer LoJack International. It is distributed by Tecno Globe.
"Since the launch of Tracker in cars, we are bombarded with requests from bikers"Barbara Tron, Product Manager at Tracker and herself a biker, told Moto-Net."But we preferred to wait until we were fully developed to be sure to provide them with a high-performance product.".
The Tracker Rider requires installation – "only by licensed professionals"to avoid leaks – a small transmitter box 11 cm long, 4 cm wide and 2 cm high. Concealed in one of the"About 15 possible locations on a standard motorcycle", the marker thus camouflaged is"undetectable because the electrical harness is embedded in the original harness", assures the manufacturer.
As soon as the theft is officially declared by filing a complaint, the marker is activated remotely by the Tracker teams. The police (National Gendarmerie, National Police and some municipal police, mainly in the south and large cities) can then locate the stolen motorcycle thanks to the receivers that equip their vehicles, and proceed to its recovery..
Thanks to its operation by direction-finding waves, and unlike systems based on satellite positioning (GPS), the transmitter Tracker camouflaged in the motorbike – or scooter – even works under cover, "in undergrounds, containers or underground parking lots", specifies the manufacturer.
The Tracker Rider "does not interfere with the other electrical components of the vehicle and consumes only a low energy of the order of 0.2 milliamps in standby mode, which is two times less than an LED on the dashboard", assures the distributor. Equipped with an autonomous back-up battery, it sends warning messages in the event of a power cut for several days,"which is more than enough to find the vehicle", assures Tracker: according to the manufacturer, with three years of experience in cars and public works machinery,"the recovery rate for stolen vehicles is 92% (350 cars in three years) and the average recovery time for a stolen vehicle is half a day".
Available at a price of 449 euros including installation, Tracker Rider also requires the subscription of a subscription of 125 euros per year or 375 euros for the duration of possession of the vehicle. "In the event of resale, the owner can thus have his Tracker Rider by a licensed professional and transfer it to his new motorcycle for four years", explains Barbara Tron who plans to direct"between 800 and 1000 sales in the first year".
