Aprilia already has a junior racing series at the start with the Sport Production Championship. This started in 2020 and runs exclusively in Italy as part of the Campionato Italiano Velocità – CIV Junior 2020. 250 cc four-stroke engines are used. the Aprilia RS 250 SP was developed in collaboration with Ohvale.

The new racing series around the new Aprilia RS 660 allows drivers aged 15 and over to gain racing experience. The national one-make cup is announced by Aprilia in cooperation with the Italian motorsport association FMI. Registrations are possible from January 25, 2021. The Aprilia RS 660 Trophy will start on May 16 in Misano. There will be a total of six runs. The other dates are Imola (July 4th), Misano (July 25th, double race), Mugello (August 29th) and Vallelunga (October 10th). A maximum of 42 participants per run are allowed. All Aprilia RS 660 at the start are identical, are from Aprilia Racing “ready to race” delivered and may not be changed in any part.

Carefree package from around 35,000 euros

Half of all starting positions are allocated directly by Aprilia Racing. Trophy participants purchase an all-inclusive package at the Aprilia Racing Area at a price of 34,900 euros plus tax and virtually only have to serve up the racing events on time. The package price includes the racing bike, complete support on the racetrack and during the tests, including catering and photo shoot, all consumables and team clothing. Only those who lay down have to shoot again. Aprilia has set the deductible for every fall damage at 2,000 euros. If you want to take part in the Trophy independently, you can purchase the ready-to-race motorcycle for 17,950 euros including taxes and drive in a separate ranking.

With an output of 100 hp and a dry weight of 169 kilograms, the RS 660 definitely has the best systems as a cup motorcycle. For racing, Aprilia Racing will equip it with Ohlins spring elements, Brembo brakes with special racing pads, a special air filter, an SC Project exhaust and fiberglass panels, new notches and steering stubs. The tire supplier is Pirelli with Supercorsa V3 SC1 tires. The performance of the racing version is 105 hp, the dry weight is only 153 kg.

Before the MotoGP race in Misano, Aprilia showed how much fun the RS 660 can have on the racetrack, where the Italians let racing pros Aleix Espargarό, Bradley Smith and Lorenzo Savadori do a few quick laps on the two-cylinder.

Racing ambitions also in the USA

The new Aprilia RS 660 will also be used on the racetrack in the USA. The racing promoter Moto America has approved the new Italian two-cylinder for the Twins Cup Series. In this racing series, two-cylinder bikes with displacements between 600 and 800 cm³ compete against each other in two weight classes. The drivers can be between 15 and 55 years old. The organizers value a balanced performance of the machines.

Conclusion

Aprilia is promoting young talent with the new RS 660. The complete package for the season costs around 35,000 euros plus tax. Drivers aged 15 and over are allowed to drive. But the racing series is also open to gentlemen racing drivers.
