We finally got our hands on an Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory for a test – the noble version of what is currently probably the most electrifying naked bike.
In order to be able to drive extremely sportily on the country road, you no longer need a motorcycle with full fairing and clip-ons. The so-called Super Nakeds really have steam in the boiler. The A.prilia Tuono V4 1100 stands out in particular: it is the only one with a V4 engine. Not so long ago the author had to buy one after the first few test kilometers had already erased the threatening meaning of the word “Dispo” from his hard drive.

Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory simply shoots the bird. Their cool design with the bright red wheels and the filigree RSV4 rear turn on.
A fat Pirelli Supercorsa SP in size 200/55 is mounted as standard on the rear wheel – that speaks a clear language, and that is attack! Of course, an Ohlins chassis is also part of the Edel-Tuono’s DNA. The steering damper, fork and shock absorber come from Sweden. We would have liked to test one of the factories long ago, but unfortunately the importer does not have any in the press fleet. A strategy that could well be questioned. As the sales figures show, the V4 from Noale still don’t seem to have reached the minds of German customers. Aprilia dealer Grebenstein from Gera put one of these precious thunderbolts in front of our door – an Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory. Off to the south of France, the mountain race track is calling!
Tastes very much like super sports
It may not surprise anyone that the test result was “euphoria”. Even the Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR with Sachs chassis is a grenade planer that brings brutal performance and fantastic handling properties and already hit nails in our comparison test in PS 08/2015. The way in which the V4 naked bike sticks into the curve precisely, how much feedback it gives the rider and how brutally you can step down the gears thanks to the slipper clutch – all of this tastes very much like supersport.
A V4 engine changes its tonal color several times due to the irregular firing order while climbing the speed ladder. This rumble of thunder, the great handling and the pressure from 1077 cubic centimeters of displacement combine to create a driving experience that you won’t forget in a hurry. In addition to the visual charms, the Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory also stands out from the standard version with its chassis – noticeably! The thing lies as if built up, which is also ensured by the steering damper on fast and wide bends, it is set a little tighter.
Brake decelerates well, but looks muddy
In previous tests of the Tuono, in very sporty right-hand bends, the heat shield of the exhaust grinded one time or the other – this does not happen with the Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory, despite the same travel. When it comes to responsiveness, the Factory also stands out from the Sachs material of its sister RR, although Ohlins has already seen goods that cut an even better figure in this discipline. Which leads us directly from the adulation to weak points. Because as impressive as the overall performance of the V4 burner is, it should definitely improve a bit in terms of smoothness. The response behavior should be even softer in the lower speed range.
What bothered us with the 1100 RR unfortunately also plagues the expensive Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory: the brakes decelerate well, but they look muddy. It lacks a clearly defined pressure point and a sharp initial bite. It is a mystery why at least the noble version of the Tuono did not get the brake system from the RSV4 Superbike. And to top it all off: For a list price of 17,990 euros, the expensive factory doesn’t even come with forged wheels. The author can keep his old thousands right away. But only if he gets off the V4 1100 Factory immediately. Otherwise it will probably delete the meaning of the word “mortgage” from the hard drive.
