The supermotard is the perfect machine for getting around, tackling collars at the bottom of the connecting rod and passing tight bends at the speed of a rabbit in heat. This is what led Aprilia to keep its Dorsoduro in the catalog, with a serious engine evolution. As for the Shiver, of which it stings the twin, its displacement climbs to 900 cm3.
With a similar name, the 900 Dorsoduro announces sports and physiotherapy sessions. Like yesterday, the silhouette is impatient to go to the arsenal. A small facelift would certainly have affirmed its renewal but the Noale brand only carried out a few color touch-ups. The bowls didn’t feel cramped, so the bore is unchanged at 92mm. On the other hand, they wanted to go a long way. The Italian engineers therefore increased the stroke from 56.4 to 67.4 mm. That smells good for the couple. And indeed, it is him the big winner of this heightened cubage. With 9.17 mkg, he develops 9% more muscle. A maximum that will have to be fetched 2000 very higher. This increase in displacement also makes it possible to switch to Euro4 without too much suffocating the twin. The exhaust contributes significantly to the pollution of the engine. With this machine, we are very far from the supermot ‘of yesteryear, derived from a trail with an inflated engine with a creaking pot and 17-inch rims. Like sports cars, roadsters and GTs, a good pick of electronics makes silicon sweat. ABS and the ride-by-wire accelerator were already present. The latter has been completely revised to be more precise and lighter by 550 grams. Engine management benefits not only from the more powerful Marelli 7SM ECU but also from a 3-level and deactivatable traction control, as well as 3 injection maps.
Sport provides direct engine response, without sweeteners, for aggressive riding.

And to take full advantage of modern solutions, the 900 Dorsoduro gains an all-digital TFT instrument panel, consisting of a 4.3-inch screen and which can optionally take advantage of the Aprilia multimedia platform, just to connect the grinding wheel to the smartphone..
It’s very nice but it is not the hits and the mp3 that will ensure the course and the sensations. The job is for the ad-hoc chassis of the Aprilia. The main structure, a mixed frame of aluminum side plates / tubular steel trellis, is unchanged. As for the ground connections, it’s something else. The 900 Dorsoduro is equipped with a new Kayaba fork, 450 grams lighter, adjustable in preload and rebound. A new pair of rims allows you to grab another two kilos. For the brakes, renewal of the 4-piston radial calipers on 320 mm tracks, which are no longer petal. Same smoothness for the 240 mm rear disc, assisted by a single-piston caliper.
This evolution of the Dorsoduro plays on a cocktail: engine and chassis closely derived from the 900 Shiver, provocative style of the 750 enlivened by striking colors, dashboard stitched to the violent 1100 Tuono from the same house. And in dynamics, it promises to be more powerful and more agile. The machine wants to win back the hearts of fans of the genre. And above all go tickle the Ducati Hypermotard, which keeps getting better. If the suspensions have been able to find rigor, the road promises to be very nice for / with this wringer of virolos.
