WSBK 2019 statements in El Villicum: Tango and clash in Argentina…
What is the result of the three World Superbike races contested this weekend at the San Juan Villicum circuit in Argentina? Site does the accounts and translates the statements of the pilots who shone – or not – during this twelfth meeting in 2019. Do you speak French ?
Every day after the race (three races per weekend in World Superbike from now on!), The Moto Journal du Net establishes the riders‘ classification. , Jonathan Rea confirmed his status as "Number One" by scoring 57 points out of 62 maximum. But the five-time world champion had to spit in the gloves !
To compensate for the deficits in acceleration and maximum speed of his Kawasaki against the Ducati of Alvaro Bautista, "Johnny" was forced to delay his braking … even if it means missing a few! A dangerous game as the San Juan Villicum track was extremely slippery off-lane…
On the cumulative of the twelve rounds, the ruthless "JR" now exceeds 600 points. An unprecedented booty because doped by the "sprint" of Sunday morning … Without this third "Superpole" race, the leader‘s counter would show 494 points in 23 rounds (a cancellation at Imola), that is to say in the right line of his established record in 2017: 556 points registered in 26 "real" races.
Author of pole position, Alvaro Bautista proved intractable in the race on Saturday. The next day, however, the Spanish n ° 19 was not so swift in the morning and enduring in the afternoon. In the second round, he was even beaten by his teammate Chaz Davies, yet transparent on Saturday … Oh no sorry, absent. Because very unhappy !
After the seven mercenaries, the six of Villicum…
The first Argentinian race was marked by the boycott of six pilots (Camier, Cortese, Davies, Kiyonari, Laverty and Melandri) on the grounds that their safety was not fully ensured on the Argentinian track which was too recently resurfaced … and under the high temperatures which made the tarmac excessively slippery on Saturday.
According to the members of # Villicum6, eight other drivers shared this opinion but finally drove, for personal reasons – place to defend in the championship – or under pressure from their team. A turnaround of jacket leather that Laverty, particularly sensitive on this subject because penalized these last two seasons by unfortunate falls and dirty injuries, strongly criticized. Rea took it for his rank…
Third highest score of the weekend with three third places (39 points), Toprak Razgatlioglu won this weekend the "title" of best independent driver. With his 299 points, the Turkish n ° 54 also and above all goes back to the level of the two official Yamaha: Lowes (305) and Van der Mark (304!) Will not be the only ones to aim for third place in the championship in Qatar !
Despite his withdrawal on Saturday, Chaz Davies left Argentina with 26 additional points. Seventh in the 2019 WSBK provisional ranking, the n ° 7 Ducati comfortably moves away from Tom Sykes and gets really close to Leon Haslam: only 8 points separate the Welsh dragon from the English Ninja !
Finally, the record of our dear Loris Baz is better than it seems: certainly, from an accounting point of view, the No. 76 of the Yamaha Ten Kate team has only earned four small points while he had amassed 27 in Magny-Cours or 28 in Donington Park for example…
But for a driver who has twice bitten the Argentinian dust, "Bazooka" can nevertheless consider himself lucky and happy to have taken part in the second round … and to be able to fight for the world Top 10 in two weeks in Qatar !

Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki n ° 1), 1st with 57 points
"It was really positive, especially the Superpole race where I felt very strong in these cooler conditions. The grip level was very high, so I was able to attack and handle the bike. It felt pretty normal. made a change from yesterday on the front end of the bike just to give me a little more confidence to stabilize the bike on braking. It got me into the corners a lot harder. that Alvaro was among the strongest and to run with him I was going to have to be really strong on the brakes and in the corners. Well done guys because we found a really good setup. Yesterday I did too much of errors during the race, which gave Alvaro too much breathing space, so I’m really happy to win both races today. ".
Alvaro Bautista (Ducati n ° 19), 2nd with 45 points
"We had a good Superpole race, but Rea’s pace was unfortunately better than ours and it was difficult to keep up. I think second place is the best we can do. In the second round, however, j I rode well at the start, Jonathan gained a few meters on me but because of his mistake I was able to catch him and we had a hell of a fight. After ten laps I started to feel a drop in ‘unexpected grip at the rear, which made me lose a few places. We still don’t know what happened: I had trouble braking in the entrances to a curve, and as soon as I opened the throttle on the way out I could feel the bike spinning. It was a very difficult race and I am disappointed because I think we could have fought for the victory..
Toprak Razgatlioglu (Kawasaki n ° 54), 3rd with 39 points
"New podiums, but in the Superpole race, I had the impression that the bike didn’t want to turn. After changing the settings, it felt incredible. But my tire didn’t last: it’s a problem. that all the riders have met. I still tried to take second place, but it was impossible. I am happy to be on another podium. We will see how Qatar is doing: I am very close to third place in the championship ".
Michael van der Mark (Yamaha n ° 60), 4th with 30 points
“If you look at the results, it didn’t go so bad in Argentina. It was a tough weekend for everyone, I think, but fourth place yesterday was a good start for me. In the Superpole race this morning I didn’t really have a good feeling and struggled a bit with the bike. But we made a big change for the second race and I felt a lot stronger from the start. areas where I would have liked to have been a bit better, of course, but still got another fourth place on a track that we had problems with last year, so we have to be happy with those points we scored. look forward to Qatar, where I am sure we will be even stronger and able to fight for the podium once again ".
Alex Lowes (Yamaha n ° 22), 5th with 26 points
"I had a somewhat frustrating start to the race in the second run: I had some problems getting back to the first and in the first lap, I took the aspiration of Sandro (Cortese, Editor’s note) in the straight line and I may have arrived a little too quickly, so I didn’t manage to get my reports. It was a shame, because it’s really difficult to get your place back. I had a good pace, but not everything quite enough to catch up after losing ground. Michael (van der Mark, Editor’s note) was in a similar situation in the Superpole race: he was following my pace, but did not have that little extra to catch up with me. felt like I rode well today, didn’t make any mistakes and enjoyed the race, but didn’t want to finish sixth. Now we need to focus on the last event in Qatar. J can’t wait to run there and defend my third place in the championship ".
Chaz Davies (Ducati n ° 7), 5th with 26 points
"It was a great way to finish the weekend. This morning in the Superpole race, I was able to finish in fourth place, which put me on the second row of the starting grid for the second round. . Unfortunately I got off to a bad start and got overwhelmed by several riders in the first corner. I felt quite comfortable and started to work my way through the peloton. took second, the gap to Jonathan was almost three seconds, and although I narrowed it down a bit, it was impossible to get closer to him. Too bad because I think if I had been there since At the start it could have been a great race. We were still competitive on another track: it’s been four or five stages now that we have passed close to the podium, or that we are on it. A big thank you to the team for their work, but also for their support yesterday (Davies was part of # Villicum6, Editor’s note). I hope we can now go to u Qatar and continue our momentum to end the season in style ".
Tom Sykes (BMW n ° 66), 8th with 10 points
“It was a tough weekend. We made some progress on the slippery track and I honestly felt we had a steady race pace in this last race, but we had some difficulties with the bike so that forced us to give up. Overall this weekend was tough for the whole BMW Motorrad team but again the track conditions were far from obvious. Given the circumstances I think that we have gathered very valuable information for the future. We will leave this weekend behind and move on to the next race in Qatar, where we hope to be able to take another step forward. ".
Loris Baz (Yamaha n ° 76), 12th with 4 points
"A day once more complicated. My hand (injured in FP3, Editor’s note) made me suffer a lot during the Superpole race and I had to grit my teeth. I made a good start and I quickly succeeded to get into 14th position, but only the first nine places are important, so I didn’t have to waste time going back up, but passing Alessandro Delbianco in the last corner, I didn’t have enough strength in my hand , I must also have touched the rear brake on a dusty part and I went highside again. Fortunately, my hand did not hit, but I was very crumpled ".
"So I was more careful in the second set. The goal was to get the most points. Alone, I had a good pace, but I lost a lot of time passing my opponents. I finally finished. 12th and I leave with a few points. I apologize to the team for the error of Saturday which somewhat conditioned the rest of the weekend. But it’s the race and I’m happy to have fought for them. points. There remains one event in Qatar during which I will try to finish the season in the top ten in the general classification and aim for a podium. I take this opportunity to thank all the medical staff, the Mobile Clinic as well as Alpinestars for keep in shape ".
Leon Camier (Honda n ° 2), 13th with 3 points
“I got off to a good start in the Superpole race, the bike was running really well and I felt strong in some portions compared to the riders around me. Unfortunately I suffered particularly from tire wear in the later stages, which made me lose time and places. Until then, I had been able to fight with Haslam and Sykes. It would have been difficult to beat them, but I had a good feeling and I was able to Keeping me up. In the second run I felt great in the middle of the group again. I was losing maybe a bit in the acceleration, but we could count on our strengths to hold onto our place. Again we have suffered more than the others from a decrease in tire performance at the end. Anyway, I got a better idea of the level of the bike today. I could see the improvements that we we were able to bring and those that we could still do. It is therefore very positive ".
