New model lines are born

The FXR family emerged from the FX types in 1984. The R stands for “rubber mounted” and identifies the rubber mountings of the new Evo engine in the frame. The FXDB Sturgis debuted in 1991: Instead of the R, it bears the suffix D in the type abbreviation, which stands for Dyna or Dynamic. It is the first Harley whose frame is developed using CAD (Computer Aided Design), is significantly stiffer and establishes a new model family: The dynas. In addition to the Sports Star, which continues to sell well, and the Softail Twins, which have been successful since 1984, the third traditional series. As of 1999, the Dynas, the heir to the Super Glide, will be powered by the new twin-cam 88 engine with two camshafts and 1,432 cubic meters. In 2007, after a new frame, the six-speed gearbox and 160 millimeter wide rear tires, the Twin-Cam 96 engine came into the Dynas as a 1,562 cubic power plant. The most brutal and arguably most active Dyna is the Low Rider S from 2017 with the almost 100 PS 110 CVO engine. The Dynas models have been using the current Milwaukee Eight engine with 107 or 114 cubic inches, i.e. 1,742 and 1,868 cubic inches, since 2018.
