The Dakar organizers have announced the first key data for the 2022 edition of the desert rally. Driving is back in Saudi Arabia.

The international rally entourage will meet again in Saudi Arabia for the Dakar at the beginning of 2022. At a first presentation, the organizer outlined what the participants can expect in the coming year.

The 44th edition of the Dakar starts on January 2nd and ends on January 14th. As in the two previous editions, it will take place entirely on Saudi Arabian soil. The technical inspection, the prologue and the start of the Dakar 2022 race will all take place in Ha’il. The route begins in a southerly direction and passes through Riyadh, where the planned rest day will take place. The race ends in Jeddah after completing twelve strenuous stages. Navigation, sand and dunes are more prominent than in previous editions.

Dakar race director David Castera also announced two loop stages and three stages that will be driven entirely in the dunes. Including a marathon stage. Around 80 percent of the new route is completely new territory. The complete new route should not be presented until November 2021.

The electronic road books used for the first time are also new at Dakar 2022. Motorcyclists must also be equipped with an airbag vest in 2022.

Conclusion

The Dakar organizers have presented the first cornerstones for the 44th edition. There should be more sand and more dunes in 2022.
