2023 will mark the 20th anniversary of the disappearance of the Kawasaki ZX-7 R. In addition to an Aprilia RS 660 or a Yamaha YZF-R7, such a machine would suit the Greens.

The artist behind Kardesign has thought about what a new 700 ninja could, maybe even should, look like. The face could be a slightly defused version the just revised 2021-ZX-10-R being. In the picture gallery there are still some super athletes around 700 cubic meters.

Frame and engine

The frame and engine would be from the Ninja 650 and the Z 650, respectively, but the 652 cubic twin with 68 hp would have to be significantly revised. Compared to the Aprilia RS660 with 100 hp 50 percent power would have to be added. Whether that is to be tickled out of the aged twin? Engine pope Dieter Briese manages to get between 90 and 110 hp, but then there is not much of the actual engine left.

Chassis and technology

The chassis of the current spearhead of medium-sized super sports cars, the Aprilia RS 660, is not entirely appropriate for the price of just under 11,000 euros. Of Kawasaki High-quality, fully adjustable Kayaba goods could be expected here, Nissin should probably brake twice, supported by the tilt-dependent systems that have proven themselves at Kawa for years. The very nice gullwing arm of the current Ninja 650 should like to stay, whether a befitting 180 tire fits into this is questionable. Selectable, sometimes configurable, driving modes are possible to match a tuned or even new engine.

Weight

The current Ninja 650 weighs 193 kilos when ready to drive. Today that is 10 kilos more than the 32 hp more powerful Aprilia. So there is room for improvement, which could be answered by the tubular steel frame used so far. Possibly even with a subframe construction made of aluminum with a heavily load-bearing motor. Such a construction suddenly makes a completely new twin appear logical.

price

Aprilia has the RS 660 printed on the price tag of 10,770 euros. A good 3,000 euros more than a normal Ninja 650. Plenty of room for improvement for the engine, chassis and equipment.

Conclusion

Medium-sized super athletes or studies are currently appearing in many corners. The success of revving twins and their affordability suddenly makes this almost forgotten class seem sensible again. One can be curious.
