Second hand advice Kawasaki ZX-10R
Nothing for road hikers

Definitely desirable on the racetrack: to be more persecuted. Does that mean: I am faster than others. The Kawasaki ZX-10R is persecuted – the big ninja is also in great demand on the second-hand market.

The Ninja ZX-10R is radical, always gives the driver the feeling of being rushed – as a pursuer in the neck. In 2004, the Zenner made its debut as the successor to the more leisurely ZX-9R, which found many friends with its all-rounder qualities, but had been struggling to hold up the flag for the Greens for a long time during the competition. It prevailed for Kawasaki So there is a need for action to finally hit the competition with a really hard sports board again. With success: 175 HP, paired with the handling and weight of a 600, that’s it. But in the fast-paced supersport segment, yesterday’s top lap times are only mediocre today.

A major model update was therefore also necessary, because first of all, the pursuers caught up with also very fast machines. And secondly, there wasn’t much left of the initial euphoria after teething troubles such as defective alternators (sometimes with engine damage) or rims at risk of breakage, apparently a bit too filigree. The 2006 fresh cell treatment did not have the desired effect, however, and the Kawa passed the podium in comparative tests. It wasn’t until two years later that the hardcore road racer took over the crown in the sportiness rating again. Almost 190 hp offered the best conditions for this. And for 2011, the Japanese went even further: 200 hp, under 200 kilos, electronic helpers to bring the power optimally to the road. Primarily used buyers benefit from the constant “tune-up” ex works: The prices for older ZX-10R are falling. However, these are anything but old iron, and probably only very few drivers dare to tease everything out of them. The following applies to this second-hand motorcycle: great sport at a great price – grab it!

While the 2004 original Type C hit the bull’s eye with the fans (especially in green), the “Enduro” pots on the new Type D did not go down well.

Should be done long ago, but still prefer to have proof: All 2004 models were recalled to the workshop and the front wheel rim was replaced due to the risk of breakage. There was also a recall for the first model year due to defective alternators (risk of major engine damage!). In general, however, the super sporty 1000 series is considered to be solid and hardly causes any problems with regular maintenance (a northern German dealer reports a flawless specimen with over 130,000 kilometers). However, the radical bike is relatively often whipped around the circuit by hobby racers.

Such escapades are species-appropriate, but the heavy exertion is not good for a designated sports machine in the long run. So be sure to watch out for signs of falling and noticeable engine noises. Experience has shown that the salespeople downplay any bets (“only one or two laps”) – therefore check conversions (non-street-legal exhaust, footrest system, racing chain set, etc.). And with machines that are throttled at low insurance costs (98 hp): Do they secretly drive open? Is illegal.

fact

In 2008 the exhaust went down again. In the area of the swing arm bearings and the steering head, the Type E is stiffer, and 188 hp was considered a super sporty challenge.

Noticeably many private providers, around half of all offers. The tens is in demand, especially the first series (2004/2005) among fans, which is sometimes a bit overpriced. The successor model (2006/2007) is less popular and is offered for the same price with the same mileage and the same maintenance condition – for around 5000 euros there are really tasty pieces. The more powerful types E and F (2008 to 2010), as uncompromising street burners, offer an excellent basis for a (hobby) racing motorcycle that is still suitable for competition. The Kawasaki is wanted, regardless of the year of manufacture, mostly in the brand color green, other color variants are cheaper. Finished racing conversions are attractive in the lower price range (around 4500 euros). At a higher price level, however, references to races lead to price discounts: from a few hundred up to 2000 euros with visible fall marks. Picobello well-maintained, series-produced used machines with brand new charm (less than 10,000 kilometers) are going well, but can only be sold very slowly for over 8,000 euros, as brand new models from the previous year are offered for sale by dealers in some places for just over 10,000 euros.
