Mopeds and mopeds for 15 year olds

The model project “Moped with 15” runs since 2013 in the states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania were added later. It stipulates that young people can acquire the AM driving license class from the age of 15 (normally 16 years old). This means that even 15-year-old mopeds, mopeds and four-wheeled light vehicles can drive up to 45 km / h. The model project was initially limited to the end of April 2018.

Studies on traffic safety and mobility behavior were carried out to accompany the project. According to the Federal Ministry of Transport, however, they have not produced any clear results. That is why the model project is being extended by two years. The ministry tries to ensure a smooth and seamless transition to the new project phase.
