Fellini has known for a long time. Now they have also discovered it with Guzzi: take life as it comes, let yourself drift along, just enjoy ?? this is Italy. And so is the new Bellagio.
You have already tried everything. Exercise, of course, a must. And Naked, somehow logical in the land of perfect forms. Even tour, although in its fundamental severity and utility value orientation it corresponds more to the »tedesci«. Yes, they have even tried their hand at the most Teutonic of all inventions, the two-cylinder multitool called Reise-Enduro. Predictably in vain.
But now! Now something is going. Moto Guzzi reinvents the Guzzi. And also a new type of motorcycle. You could call them “fun cruisers”. Or »Custom Naked«. The Mandello people call them »Bellagio«.
That fits, because the name already resonates, the lively serenity of Lombardy. The place to the bike is opposite the factory gate, on the other bank of Lake Como. And on the B.ellagio “swings” it too. From the first meter. Through the narrow streets of the village, over cobblestones, at walking pace. Cafes on the left, market stalls on the right ?? and in the middle of it all, the new 940 like a fish in the water. Strolling through the hustle and bustle, stretches the cylinders of the 1200 engine with 95 millimeters bore as if to say hello, while the shaft of the 850 engine in the depths of the crankcase not only reduces the displacement, but also noticeably improves the smoothness. In this configuration (75 hp and 78 Newton meters of torque are promised), the 940 does not stomp like a tractor on vacation, but like one who, despite all the emphasis, does not lack the sense of the chic of this location. No question about it, he’s lost pressure around the bottom. In return, however, increased manners. The rural aspect, which always clung to him a little, was largely left out in the country. A fact that also manifests itself in a much gentler load change stroke than the 1200 brother has and which, as is well known, can quickly turn the casually initiated change of direction into an unwanted slapstick insert, especially at strolling speed. That is when the lamb suddenly turns into a bull while putting on the gas and shakes itself violently.
So this danger is averted. But others are threatened, from an unexpected source. Those who really enjoy themselves on the comfortable bench, which is not too high even for small people, guide the wide handlebars with a loose hand and let their feet rest relaxed on the footrests that are not too far forward, do not expect the steering angle to be limited . So be careful: a 180 degree turn, because the pretty blonde probably winked her eye behind her sunglasses? that needs to be considered carefully. And it should ideally take place around the next corner, because uncool maneuvers do not necessarily go well with the relaxed appearance.
In general: with all promenade? A trip to the countryside is also worthwhile on the Bellagio. Because it quickly shows that there is more to it than just idleness. The 940 has a repertoire that you wouldn’t trust it given its cruiser outfit. “The custom bike with the soul of a naked” promise those from across the lake in the press release. And they are right. Once out in the wild, the Bellagio mutates from a leisurely glider to a serious hill climber at the command of the throttle. With a splendid handiness that sometimes drifts off into the wobbly. With an engine that reaches the peak of its creative power in the middle speed range and does not shy away from the upper regions. With spring elements that are clearly designed to be comfortable on the one hand and on the other hand do not really stand in the way of even brisk country road speeds. In addition, a brake system (320 millimeter discs, double piston calipers), which requires firm grip, but then grips with determination.
So now we are suddenly in the serious subject. But: Even this part of the Bellagio essence never runs the risk of drifting into trouble. The driver’s actions are usually playful, light, almost irrelevant. This distinguishes the 940 from other cruisers, where the looseness is often bought with a lot of commitment. Something different sets them apart from solid naked bikes: The credible casualness when it comes to enjoying the public appearance. Incidentally, a nonchalance that seems to be in Mandello’s blood. This applies not only to the abundant use of obvious hard plastic, which looks a bit peculiar next to this monument by Motor. At the time of the presentation, it was not possible to name any other colors besides the matt black test variant. One is still in discussion. After all: From the beginning of May it will be available from dealers at a price of 10670 euros. But it could also be later. “Dolce vita” in every respect.
