The Moto Guzzi road enduro in the test

A full 32 liters of fuel fit into the new tank of the Moto Guzzi Stelvio. That’s enough for long-term driving pleasure, because the facelift of the street enduro has been a success all round.

Nothing beats practice: when it came to the overhaul of the Moto Guzzi Stelvio, the company’s test drivers had the last word. And you can see that on the mighty road enduro at every nook and cranny. The first version of the 1200 twin-cylinder, which came on the market in 2008, was not that easy, so playful, with so much feedback and so much pressure in all situations.

E.The only concession to marketing is the enormous 32-liter tank, because the competition from BMW to Yamaha cannot serve with such reserves. Which is why it is great for advertising, even if such a long-distance runner with a range of 440 kilometers is hardly necessary on the country roads of Europe, the actual terrain of this large enduro. The large fuel drum makes the Stelvio even heavier – with a full tank, it weighs over 280 kilograms – but nothing of that is noticeable when driving. Visually, the tank is not out of the ordinary, because the new cladding with improved and adjustable windshield integrates it quite inconspicuously.

Moto Guzzi

Full overview: The Stelvio cockpit now provides more detailed information about the fuel level.

The NTX version also offers aluminum cases, hand protectors, crash bars, aluminum engine protection and additional headlights and is also available on spoked wheels. The accessories basically only increase their weight by 15 kilograms compared to the Stelvio, but the expansive suitcases slow down the forward thrust a little, at least in tight bends.

All in all, the Guzzi technicians and test drivers did a great job with the revision and the Stelvio came much closer to its great role model from BMW. It will be interesting to see whether the endurance runner with the giant tank might turn into a long-runner after all.
