Ducati Monster 2021: almost everything at the beginning
Ducati Monster model year 2021
Almost everything at the beginning
Ducati is bringing a completely new Monster for the 2021 season. Fans have to say goodbye to the tubular space frame and the additional displacement designations, among other things. The monster is simply called monster.
Uli Baumann
02.12.2020
For 28 years, the steel tubular space frame was part of the DNA of Ducati Monster. The 2021 model year is history. Ducati has the monsters, the future plain “monster” without addition means, developed from scratch. The aim is to raise the new monster to a whole new, high level.
New framework concept, significantly less weight
Ducati
Similar to its V4 super sports sisters, the new Ducati Monster has an aluminum front frame. The wheels, the rear frame and the aluminum twin-arm swing arm have also been completely redesigned. The tank has shrunk to 14 liters and gives the new Monster a slimmer waist. The new overall layout reduces the wheelbase to 1,474 millimeters which, together with a weight reduction of 18 kilograms, promises significantly more agility. The steering angle also increased noticeably. The new Monster should bring 188 kilograms on the car when fully fueled. At the front it relies on a USD 43 fork, and further on a directly hinged shock absorber at the rear. The tire dimensions are unchanged at 120/70 – 17 at the front and 180/55 – 17 at the rear. Braking power is provided by radially hinged four-block brembos with 320 mm discs, a 240 mm disc at the rear.
35 kW version for A2 driving license
Monster fans don’t have to do without the familiar V2 as a drive source. Here the team from Bologna relies on the tried and tested 937 cubic twin from Supersport. It delivers 111 hp and a maximum torque of 90.5 Nm. The peak output is two HP and the torque four Nm higher than that of the 821, whereby the torque plus should be particularly noticeable in the lower speed range. There will be a 35 kW version for A2 driving license holders.
Ducati
Ducati accommodates short-grown monster pilots with a newly shaped bench with a seat height of 820 millimeters. A two centimeter flatter seat is also available as an option. If necessary, the chassis can also be lowered by up to 25 millimeters using accessory components.
Full electronics program and new lines
The Italians have packed it up in terms of electronic equipment – everything is on board, from various driving modes to launch control or adjustable cornering ABS. An automatic gearshift is also part of the standard equipment. A new 4.3-inch TFT display in the cockpit interacts with the driver.
In terms of design, not much remains of the lines developed by Miguel Galluzzi. The front with the dynamic, round headlights looks cool and contemporary. In the side view, almost nothing of the V2 can be seen. The tank arches up and the exhaust gases from the V2 escape through a steeply positioned double rear silencer on the right-hand side.
Price level remains the same
Ducati
With a base price of 11,290 euros (plus around 300 euros in additional costs), the new Monster, which is available in gray, red and black, is priced at a similar level to its predecessor, the Monster 821. In addition to the basic Monster, Ducati also offers the Monster +, which shines with a small cockpit fairing and a cover for the pillion seat. The extra charge for this is 300 euros. As usual with Ducati, the Monster can be further customized with performance add-on parts. It will be available from dealers from April 2021.

What do you think of the departure from the classic monster recipe?
Voted 827 times
Very well done, it was high time.
Much too Japanese and no longer monster style.
Conclusion
After 28 years, Ducati is turning to a whole new monster concept. From the paper values, the new Monster promises significantly more driving dynamics and agility. However, fans have to do without the classic Galluzzi lines and the traditional steel tubular space frame.
