Niu has been around since 2015 and since then over 500,000 smart e-scooters have covered over seven billion kilometers. On average, that’s 14,000 kilometers each, which would mean 187 full charges for a 75-kilometer range per scooter. Where did Niu’s Chinese colleagues get this data from? Possibly from their own cloud, with which the Niu scooters are all connected according to the manufacturer, so that the owners can use the app to check the battery status, view the journey, locate the scooter and, of course, get a possible theft reported.

New MQi GT with even more internet

The new Niu MQi GT is the further development of the existing one Niu M series and comes with two removable batteries with a total of 31 Ah capacity, a 3,100 watt Bosch wheel hub motor and 14-inch tires. The engine should offer 45 Nm torque. The Niu is also given a new frame made of tubular steel, which seems to have been developed especially for two-person operation. The new batteries provide the MQi GT with power for a range of 70 to 80 km, depending on the top speed, which can be reduced to 45 km / h for the L1e class. Without a throttle, the Niu runs 70 km / h. The new top model also brings the usual Niu features, such as removable batteries, SmartConnectivity (smartphone app), anti-theft protection and energy recovery. Three driving modes with reduced top speeds of 25, 55 and 70 km / h can be selected.

Prices, colors and availability

Niu gives a non-binding retail price of 3,399 euros for Germany and Austria for its latest model. The color palette includes white, red, gray, blue and black, which can be selected at no extra charge.
